That was a huge win at the time, Saldivar came from nowhere to upset the number 1 Featherweight contender. Laguna was a high ranking contender at Bantamweight and Featherweight for a good while before this fight, and literally Saldivar was an unknown quantity, within 12 months he had gone from unknown Mexican prospect to World champion with this being the biggest victory of the three in terms of shock value IMO.

If anything it is underlooked now.

Yeah, thats why i mentioned this to be honest...I hardly see anyone talk about this victory, that and combined with Laguna beating Ortiz about a year later, i figured it wasnt ranked as highly back then. Didnt really know laguna was highly regarded like that pre-Ortiz to be quite honest with you, my mistake on that.

Fair enough pal, I agree with you its a good victory. That 12 month period of Saldivars where he went from nnbo-one to some one is perhaps the best 12 months in boxing for one fighter.

Saldivar's second greatest victory, Ramos being his first, sounds about right.

But is not the problem of hindsight, the reason so many fighters are over or under rated?

Surely each fight should be judge in the context of its time?

The Hopkins who lost to Jones was a limited fighter, who was years away from peaking and becoming the phenomenon he is now.

The Nelson who lost to Sanchez, was a virtual novice, who yes showed signs of being special, but should not of been such a challenge to one of the finest fighters of the time, thus Sanchez deserved the criticism that came his way.

Any non-simpleton should be capable of using and seperating the worth of both; analysing something with the benefit of sufficient hindsight and in the context of it's happening.

The real problem is too many boxing fans just being entirely biased and wanting to shape things to look good for their favourites.

The Pac DLH fight and the many opinions surrounding it pre and postfight the best recent example of this.

It's the very nature of the sport to have different opinions pre and post fight, and then as the years go by and fights add up.Every fight tells us something new.

honestly, I never saw it either. great match-up, though. I'd have picked Mustapha to win it, but could've gone either way.

I've heard the same, but have only seen about 12 minutes of the fight. I'd have given Franklin the edge based on that, but I can't say for sure without the other 18 minutes.
