P4P a heavyweight as 215 pound Ali was, wasn't as good all around as a Sugar Ray Leonard ,who could do as a WW more than Ali because of his "sharper"
punching...If Clay/Ali was not charismatic as he was, he wouldn't be called
"the greatest HWT of alltime" IMO. A chap named Joe Louis has that distinction...Louis eviscerated his division for 12 years, leaving his opponents prone on the canvas...Ali did not do this, though Ali had better
opposition...Cheers...
You never mentioned Armstrong, although im sure it was just an easy oversight. Ive no beef with the fighters you picked, none whatsoever, but i do find it strange that you pick Dempsey as an HM (which you DID, just check your post) and omit Ali. Im not chastising you, just an honest observation my good man.

Probably because Dempsey was better 'pound for pound', beating up much bigger men etc.

Well the best achievement is Armstrong: simultaneously being the best man in 3 different weight classes.

the best resume is Greb: eeds no further input.

The best on film is Robinson.

It's extremely close between these 3 guys but in the end I go with Robinson and here's why. I've never seen Greb fight and out of a prime matchup between Robinson and Armstrong I favour Robinson to emerge victorious.

Sounds reasonable and logical enough to me

Nice post Luf.

Yeah, if we're going solely by resume Greb has the advantage.

He's my man.

i'm with the big O, fine post and nicely sums up the fighters involved and the difficulty with choosing ONE greatest...it really depends on your criteria.

by the way: surprised you don't have fitz in contention for greatest achievement. also for greatest achievement, i think langford MAY have a case with his wins/newspaper wins from lightweight-heavyweight:
1)joe gans
2)walcott
3)ketchell
4)o'brien
5)everyone but johnson

Love the way you put this, and indeed: They are my top three.

Robinson and Armstrong's resumes are certainly nothing to sneeze at either.

Langford beat great fighters from Lightweight to Heavyweight. I'm not so sure Greb's resume is any better, nor Armstrong's actual achievement.

1. Robinson
2. Langford
3. Greb

Those are the guys I like for the top spot, most often in that order.

Joe Louis looks best on film to me, and his achievements (longest reign, most defences, 22 title fight KOs) stack up well against anyone's.

I know Cox has him in his top five P4P.

Don't see it too often, though.
