Default Jimmy McLarnin vs. Manny Pacquiao

Both did similar things.

How many southpaws did McLarnin see? It could make a big difference.

Didn't mcLarnin win his title from a 'wrong un''?

Would it be wrong to say Pacquiao achieved more at Flyweight through to (not including) Welterweight?

Yep, Young Corbett III was a southpaw. And an ATG. Knocked out in one round.

When you mean by achieved more winning belts and championships youīd be right. Opposition-wise, I think itīs close but Iīd go with Jimmy.

Opposition wise and achievements.

Sasakul, Morales, Barrera, Marquez etc... Its not that shabby and he has some depth in it for a modern fighter with guys like Larios, Lebebabaw etc...

Definitly. I love Pac. Opposition-wise I think itīs reasonably close. McLarnin has the slightly bigger names in LaBarba, Villa, Taylor, Singer though - yeah, I know LaBarba was "green" but he was a tremendous amateur and back then the difference between amateurs and pros were nearly non-existent and McLarnin was green too and Villa had a tooth infection, we donīt know how acute this was then though.. And he beat some of them more than once and has some depth too with. I like him more, slightly. Take the wws into account and itīs clearly McLarnin IMO - still for me both rank very similar - Petrolle, Brouillard, (Leonard), Young Corbett III, Ross, Canzoneri, Ambers. Between 30 and 36 he only fought big name fighters/atgs. Thatīs just awesome.

I'd say Pacquaio would stand up very well in a like for like comparison of their records under 147lbs. I might try to put one together.

Under 147?

Technically Jimmy only fought once over it.

Come on, he meant inside the ww limit and under it and you know it. Donīt be so German.

Iīd like to see that. Pac may very well come out on top. But it always depends on how you judge the quality of guys like Sasakul, MAB, EM, JMM in comparison to the versions of LaBarba and Villa McLarnin faced. I think thatīs not so easy.

Well thats the problem...a lot of the opponants he fought for welter fights were well below the limit aswell.

Makes it hard when most of Pac's recent fights were at Mannyweight.

I think the phrase you are looking for is "Light-Welter and below" or "Lightweight and below"
