Tarver rubbishes Green opponents

NEIL DEVEY, The West Australian April 27, 2011, 6:00 am

Antonio Tarver has started the trash talk before his big fight with Danny Green - labelling Perth's IBO cruiserweight champion "the Garbageman" who has been snacking on easy pickings.
The American also rubbished Green's famous one-round demolition of Roy Jones Jr 16 months ago by saying the former ring great had been "propped up" just to give the West Aussie a decent name on his CV.
Green makes his fifth title defence against Tarver at Sydney's Entertainment Centre on July 20.
And the "Magic Man" says he is ready to bring down the curtain on the champion's 10-year professional career.
"Danny Green was a helluva super-middleweight and a good light-heavyweight, but cruiserweight? Come on," Tarver said.
"Instead of 'the Green Machine' they should be calling him 'the Garbageman' because all hes doing is feasting on has beens."
Tarver is not alone in questioning the quality of recent Green victims Manny Siaca and, in particular, Paul Briggs.
But last time out Green scored an impressive points win over previously unbeaten BJ Flores, and besides, at 42 and with just one outing in two years, many fans would put Tarver in the "has been" category too.
A mistake, says the former undisputed light-heavyweight world champion hailed for his second-round knockout of a near-peak Jones Jr seven years ago but whose two losses to Chad Dawson in 2008 and 2009 seemed to indicate his time at the top was over.
"A lot of people said it was sad to see what I did to Roy Jones back in 2004 when I took his chin and removed him from the elite level, but it was sadder to see him propped up for Danny Green five years later just so he could have a big name on his resume," said Tarver, whose record is 28 wins, with 19 KOs, and six losses.
"He's attempting to do the same with me but the difference is I'm no Roy Jones Jr. He picked the wrong guy. This is a fight he should have never taken.
"Im coming to Australia with a sense of urgency, knowing that I have to take it out of the judges' hands. In order to secure victory, I have to knock him out."
Green, 38, has won 31 of his 34 bouts, including 27 inside the distance.

I was simply showing you that your statement that RJJ was 6-6 before he fought Danny was bullshit

LJD
not wanting to be picky but all that was said was he is 6-6 in the last few years which is correct taking into account the green and Bhop losses however as you said he was 5-1 in his last 6 before danny both statements are correct it is just whether you like or dislike Green with what statement you go with, stats can be twisted to make people look good or bad depends on what side of the fence you are on

This fight does hardly anything for their careers, just tops up their bank balances.

I doubt the winner will try unify the IBO title with one of the majors.

seen roy and danny at star city, got pics with him and was suprised at his upper body mass (i still think he is a bit of grubb to boxing) ... than when roy walked past me he looked tiny in mass-upper body-height-reach-...i just thought to myself he looked "tired, small & WEAK!!"

It will be a good fight IMO but Vea will cop a schooling....it will be a good demonstration of the gap between average and good....we ain't seen great yet

The good thing about the CW division is some of the guys under 10 fightes are better than the guys with 20 fights...this makes for some great matched
