Not surprisingly it was the same guy that predicted only last year that a much maligned Australian fighter, most famous for wasting his prime, could beat Cotto & Margarito ....and yes agreed, he certainly seems to know nothing about boxing going by his recent comments. |

Green prepares for his closest fight yet
By Nathan Ryan 3 May 2011 06:07PM EST [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] DANNY Green is knee deep in preparation for what he says will be the closest fight of his career with American Antonio Tarver.
Professionally, Green has not boxed since his 12th round unanimous point’s decision over American BJ Flores last year. It has been well documented that after Green had his appendix removed early this year due to a softball sized abscess growing off it he may have never returned to the squared circle. Yet four months after the ordeal he is back and training for what he says will be the closest fight of his career. “Against Roy Jones I was the five to one underdog and against Antonio Tarver I’m maybe the favourite,” he told sportsnewsfirst.com.au. “This fight is a 50-50 fight.” Being a close fight the question begs to be asked, what will it come down to at the end of the night? “It depends on hunger and preparation,” Green said. “If you prepare properly and do the hard yards it comes down to who’s got the bigger balls and who’s the better fighter.” Tarver, a 1996 Olympic Games bronze medallist and former IBO, IBF, WBA, WBC light heavyweight champion, will fight in Australia for the first time when their pair comes to blows at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on July 20. Comments by his 42-year-old opponent - that Green is too wild in his overhand rights - have been dismissed by Green although he is ready to uses them if he sees an opportunity. “He’s been watching my old tapes,” said Green. “I think my style as been pretty composed until were trading blows and we hit the trenches and I’ve got the guy home, then I tend to let them go from everywhere. “I’ve never been cut; I haven’t received a truck load of damage so I don’t think I have been as wild as some would suggest.” Battling to put on the size, aiming for a 90kg weigh in for his July 20th fight the biggest challenge facing Green is increasing his number on the scales. “For Tarver I’ll have to be a little bit heavier,” Green said. “He’s 6”3’, he can get up to 98-100kg no problem so by the weigh in he’ll be cruiserweight or under and in the next 30 hours before the fight he’ll put on more weight but I won’t put on a thing but where I weigh in at is probably where I’ll fight at.” Green who has knocked out Roy Jones Jnr has his IBO Cruiserweight title on the line against the man who first achieved that feat in 2004. To combat the man Green has enlisted the services of a number of fighters to help him prepare. “He’s not a very orthodox fighter; he throws punches from all different angles,” he said. “The challenge is getting a guy sparring with whose very difficult to hit and to take down and pounce the ropes because Tarver’s a very skilful fighter. "I’ve got a lot of respect for the guy’s talents and the guys skill, power and what he’s done in the game.” [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] from that looks like it will be at full CW limit. |
