Default Diaz Vs GSP

Diaz is just getting better and better. A Jiu-Jitzu fighter deciding to go out of his comfort zone and stand up with one of the strongest boxers in the entire division and still come out with a KO win is pretty special. We all know that Diaz has great submissions and a newly gained great stand up, but how would he do against the man regarded as the king of the welterweights, GSP? Now that UFC owns Strikeforce, it is quite possible for us to see it happen. It is a very hard fight to predict in my opinion. Generally we all go with GSP because he seems unbeatable at times, but after following Diaz for quite some time, I see very little stopping this guy. Perhaps GSP could go in with some great wrestling, something Diaz doesent seem to face too often. He shouldnt get an easy sub on such an experienced GSP. I think the whole fight comes down to if GSP can bully him physically enough. It could end up as a boring fight where GSP stays on top of him for the full rounds, but Diaz is a dangerous ground fighter and I imagine him being able to hurt GSP a few times on the ropes.

Opinions?

Diaz surprised me last nite beating Daley like that, but GSP is a totally different animal GSP would beat him everywhere like he did with alves beat him standing then hit him with a surprise TD and GnP him then the same again! GSP is a true mmartist does everything great and mixes it even better!

Diaz is benefiting from the post fight hype that happens after an impressive win. He will have little to offer GSP. George would take him down at will and grind his way to an easy five round victory.
GSP makes otherwise impressive fighters look mediocre, and he would do exactly that to Diaz.

Diaz would be a stern test, and be a challenge from all aspects. Diaz isn't as athletic, and doesn't throw as short of punches; but his chin and accuracy make him a threat as long as the fight is standing. GSP can probably take Diaz down at will, but Diaz is very danger off his back. Diaz will not automatically struggle to get back to standing. Diaz will look to get to guard, and then work for a submission.

Diaz will also be one of the few people Pierre can't count on wearing down, as his conditioning is just as good as the UFC welterweight champion's.

I wouldn't favor Diaz against Alves or Fitch, but I would give him a better chance against Pierre than I would either of those fighters.

Diaz is an excellent fighter, but so were Koscheck and many others. GSP is too powerful and too good, he'd made Diaz look ordinary, even though he isn't.

Did you guys watch the fight last night by any chance? Yeah, Diaz is undoubtly a good fighter, but dude THINKS he is better than he is. He almost got KTFO last night a couple times!
And not because he's a bad fighter, not because he has a bad chin...But simply cuz the kid is a ****y idiot. He did show great heart, and like I said he is a good fighter no doubt, but why is he so dumb?
If he were to take fights seriously, and fight the way he's suppose to I'd give him a chance against GSP. If he fought anything like the fight last night I'd give him NO CHANCE to beat GSP!

It's in the Diaz DNA to act like that. Neither of the brothers are going to change.

Diaz's chin was definitely amazing last night, but he was in against a guy who was more than willing to engage Diaz in a messy, swinging brawl. Exactly what Nick wanted, even though he nearly paid for it a couple of times.
GSP is way more disciplined and isn't go to fall for Diaz' antics like the taunting he did at the start of the fight last night.

His brother Nate did the same silly showboating in his last fight with Kim and ended up on his back most of the night. Smart fighters don't play into their opponents strengths just because they are taunted to do so.

Diaz spends the whole fight on his back and losses every round.

How many Nick Diaz fights you seen my man ? Diaz's might be a BJJ Blackbelt but his comfort zone probably is his striking and has been for years dating back to 04 when he knocked out the dangerous Robbie Lawler. Diaz has been beating down strikers with his striking every since.

GSP would dominate Diaz. Diaz is a good fighter, but he has shown me nothing to convince me that both Fitch and GSP wouldn't take his ass down and control him for the entire fight. Don't forget what happened to Diaz the last time he tried to fight in the UFC. He may have improved his standup, but does anyone really think he has fixed his real weakness, which is his wrestling? GSP would outstrike him, and then take him down 1/2 way through each round and win 5-0.

If they are going to bring Diaz into the UFC, they should introduce him with a rematch with Diego Sanchez. It would be a meaningful fight, easy to promote and would be a great barometer on how he can cope with the better wrestlers. If Diego is able to take him down and GnP and control him like he did in Fight 1, that means Diaz really hasn't improved much and has no business being discussed with Fitch, Kos, GSP, Shields, Penn and Alves as the top guys in the division.

Nick Diaz is already the ordinary looking guy who beats guys up who are supposed to be him at their own game (striking) and does it with relative ease. Its interesting to see guys who are strong strikers who just appear to be out of their element or seemed surprised when Diaz is man handling them the way he does. GSPs best bet would be to play it safe and wrestle Diaz. He's the shorter guy that needs to close the distance, has a shaky chin and doesn't need to take any chances by trying to exchange with Diaz, regardless of what speed advantage he would have.

Almost every single Diaz fight recently has been characterised by his ability to take a shot and his flurries which back his opponents up against the cage where his best combos of head body are worked beautifully. He wont be able to do that with Georges imo. GSP will work behind the jab, has the ability to mix it up with kicks which helps dictate the range and circles away beautifully in the centre of the Octagon. People criticise him for the lack of power, but we see how far thats got Daley in his MMA career when face with a true mixed martial artist or ground specialist
And the ground aspect of this fight has already been mentioned

And then we can spend days reading posts from GSP haters about how George is a coward who was afraid to stand with Diaz, and he should have finished him on the ground - even though last night showed Diaz is nearly impossible to finish.

The script for this fight is pretty much written already.
