People can get a sense of this...before some Eubank fights they show him shadow boxing in the changing rooms and displaying this trait. Much more athletically gifted fighters are not as 'fast' with their release of punches because they load up.

He doesn't look it, but from point A to B with one punch Eubank was very fast, because of that no waste of motion and he tried to keep it compact. This is why he got the better of some fighters in extended exchanges. There's a perfect illustration of this in the final few seconds of the final round of his fight with Calzaghe, where he comes off the ropes and hit Joe with a HUGE short right hand almost knocking him out. So he also kept that form and compact punching in extreme fatigue. Eubank was more talented then even he realised and would admit.
Totally agree Slip. When i was younger i used to shadow box like him cos he was my hero back in day.

Looking back some of stuff he does is so unconventional but some of his quirky ideas actually work but there's some things he did which i think he just did for ring showmanship. He liked to put across a sense of control over the other fighter and judges like he was in supreme control of proceedings.

You can briefly see what i mean from this clip. From 0:40. Look at the way Eubank is throwing those punches...very little motion wasted and snappy. One of his secrets was he had his guard very close.

Oh, mahn. That big fight tune just gets me going, lol. Very nostalgic.

I'm surprised Eubank didn't mention the importance of activity in development. He was pretty big on that and fought at least 4 times a year in his prime and sometimes more. In fact there was a year where he fought close to 10 times, which is unheard of today.

Fighters shouldn't have any problem fighting 4 times a year. 2 months off is more then enough IMO. It's no coincidence that fighters improve, develop and are more successful in the years they're more active. This is the reason fighters back in the day where able to creat ATG legacies in relatively short periods of time because they fought more often. You can still have those tune up fights, you don't have to face a killer everytime, but just stay busy. That concept has been lost.
