Quarry was on another level. The greatest heavyweight to never win a title.
Wepner was slow, weak, and cut easily. He was a dirty fighter and lost to every good fighter he ever fought. Hell, the only reason he won againts terrel was his amazing plan of damaging Terrell's fists with his face.
I agree, why even start a thread on this?

Wepner was only floored by Mathis, Liston (who bypassed his chin in dumping him with a short right to the midriff), Ali (who dropped an exhausted 36 year old Chuck after a sustained barrage with less than 30 seconds to go in round 15), and Horst Geisler in round ten when 38 years of age, so I expect he'd finish on his feet with Jerry, getting stopped yet again on cuts.
You mean a livershot?

He always seemed to me he had a good chin.
Basically the only thing that kept him from not being the worst.

Wepner was a skilled rabbit puncher. Rabbit punching was for Wepner what holding behind the neck was for Ali.

You have to favor Quarry in this, however, anything could happen. This is supposed to be both men at their best.

Wepner was at his best when he fought Ali in 1975. Wepner was able to really focus on training and getting well prepared for Ali for obvious reasons. That's the Wepner we are talking about. He did beat Randy Neumann 1 out of 2, Ernie Terrell, and Terry Hinke among others.

Quarry was at his best vs. the likes of a slightly faded Patterson x2, Ellis, Buster Mathis, and Frazier (1st fight) He went 2-2-1 (0) in these fights and was stopped once. He also beat a green Ron Lyle and Ernie Shavers among others.

Quarry fought a younger Ali than Wepner but Ali was a bit rusty in 1970. Ali had not fought since 1967 when he stopped Quarry in 3 rounds in 1970. Ali stopped Quarry in 7 rounds in 1972.

Wepner fought Ali in 1975 following Ali's win over Foreman. Wepner knocked Ali down in the 9th (yes, he stepped on his foot) and was stopped late in the 15th round (...and inspired Stallone to write Rocky).

So, Quarry vs. Wepner? Wepner is 5" taller with a 6" longer reach and almost 30 Lbs. heavier. They were both great bleeders with a lot of heart. Quarry was more skilled but I think Wepner's size and ability to absorb Quarry's punches would cause Quarry problems.

Wepner went 9 vs. Liston (was not allowed to come out for the 10th) and almost 15 vs. Ali.

In two fights vs. Ali, Quarry didn't even last 9 rounds.

I think it goes the distance and Quarry probably wins a close decision but it's far from easy.

Quarry would win easily. The only question is whether Wepner goes the full route.

Providing Jerry keeps his cool and boxes,he accurately counters every lunge Chuck makes and stops his man late in the contest.

Quarry is one of the best heavyweights to never win the title.

I would bet on Quarry to with by mid-round KO, or by stoppage on cuts.

Of course, Wepner always has a "bleeder's opponent's chance" to win.

Big ,slow moving ,ponderous heavies were Quarry's meat ,Wepner would be the
"heavy bag "to Jerry's fists.

An ugly beatdown would ensue ,redeemed only by Wepner's courage in absorbing it.

Langford and Norton are up there too, but Quarry was definitely one of the best contenders ever.

Wepner did better against Ali, but Quarry should beat him comfortably on a clear points decision.
