The AIBA is thinking about not using headgear anymore after the 2012 games. Apparently they're going to study the effects comparing with headgear and without using the WSB as a study. I personally like the idead, they didn't start using them until when 1984?

Also at the 2012 Olympics every judges decision will be made available to the public. They're hoping this will eliminated some of the shitty decisions and make the judges more accountable.

Not sure they should do away with the headgear. But they've done studies in other contact sports, and the usefullnes of headgear has been questioned by people who should know.

The headguard doesn't take away much force from the actual punch, but I think it's good to prevent cuts from headbutts. Therefore it's quite convenient to use headguards at tournaments or championships, where you need to fight up to six fights.

I don't like this, it's mainly for the cuts, swelling etc which in tournament situations is useful.

Plus its amateur boxing, guys not doing this fulltime have jobs to go to a day after a tournament, this might put people off with potential cuts and bruises to the face, and then going to work the next day unpresentable.

Exactly. Look at the prizefighter tournament or any other pro tournament where you need to have multiple fights over a short amount of time. The amount of guys who win their fights but don't go through as they get cut and don't get medical clearance.
