Default Forgewood ABC Tournament 15/05/11

Forgewood ABC staged their annual tournament at Motherwell’s United Services Club on Sunday with all proceeds going to Macmillan Nurses. One of the largest British Charities, Macmillan Nurses, provides practical, medical and financial support in the fight against cancer.

One year ago the disease tragically ended the life of celebrated boxing trainer, Archie McKay who was honoured with the traditional ten count. Many in attendance swapped stories about the local legend who took Motherwell’s Barry Morrison to a British light welterweight title in 2007.

The matchmaker for the event was Mick Roberts and the show proved to be a big success, as evidenced by the local ABC donating a cheque of £500 to this most vital of charities as well as those in attendance contributing generously.

Bout results below:

  • Paul Duncan (Auchengeich ABC) beat Callum Andrew (Forgewood ABC) on points.

Spirited battle sees southpaw Duncan edge the contest

  • James Lowe (Springhill ABC) beat Kyle Boyle (Forgewood ABC) on points
Left lead decisive for Lowe

  • Darren Johnstone (Forgewood ABC) beat Connor Docherty (Kelty ABC) on points.

Tactics out the window in old fashioned tear up

  • Andrew Duncan (Auchengeich ABC) beat Ryan Boyle (Forgewood ABC) on points.

High Contact affair sees Duncan triumph

  • Taylor Nisbet (Cambusnethan ABC) beat Jack Fisher (Forgewood ABC) on points.

A fast start by Nisbet is sustained as he appears too strong for Fisher

  • Regan Dunn (Forgewood ABC) beat Nicholas Ford (Hillpark ABC) on points.

Even fight edged by local lad

  • John Stephenson (Forgewood ABC) beat Steven Knox (Auchengeich ABC) on points.

Terrific action between two southpaws

  • Ryan Mullen (Forgewood ABC) beat Connor Stuart (Hillpark ABC) on points.

Mullen sharper leading and on the counter

  • Fraser Gorn (Kelty ABC) beat David McCormack (Forgewood ABC) on points.

Great start by Gorn then bombs away in the fight on the tournament

Matthew Middleton (Forgewood) and Liam Read (Dennistoun & McNair ABC) produced a superb exhibition bout as did Greg Nailen (Forgewood ABC), Paul Greenhorn (Kelty ABC), Jordan Crisp (Forgewood ABC), Danny Tarling (Kelty ABC), Jordan Dunn (Forgewood ABC) and Mark Docherty (Kelty ABC).
