There was a thread on him a couple weeks ago. Personally, I like him. He's got a lot of experience, is obviously knowledgeable on the finer points of the game, and has a ton of enthusiasm.

He'd be fun to grab a beer with but the only one he should sound knowledgeable to is an fan that knows nothing about boxing. He endlessly shills fighters and often greatly embellishes their ability or standing. To me, he sounds quite ignorant or he's the ultimate bullshitter. I think it's a bit of both. For example, he said that stiff that KO'd the bigger stiff (on the Holyfield undercard) was the next big thing in the division. That's ridiculous. The guy sucks and wouldn't get by most decent journeymen.

He's a shill for the fighters. He's over the top, yes. I prefer him over the constant smack talk of a guy like Atlas who is always putting down fighters.

He's useful as a way of making a fight that doesn't matter seem like a slobberknocker, to continue the WWF theme this thread has. Can you imagine Larry Merchant (who I do like, but who is a grump) doing the same fights-

"Holyfield is a has been, Savarese is a never was. You don't care about this fight... And neither do I."

Teddy Atlas is a good balance between the two approaches. Teddy calls shit when he sees it, but he has (especially in recent years) developed an appreciation for the ordinary Joe's of boxing.

he came down to australia a few years back. there was a dinner and show thing where they showed clips of all his fave fight and fighters and he answered some questions. stuck around for a chat afterwards and seemd like a top guy

His announcing is a joke and along with Max Kellerman, he should be commentating for the UFC. I was cheering for Holyfield during the match, but his nuthugging got so ridiculous that I almost wanted Holyfield to start looking bad just to hear what he would say. The funniest part was when he said that Sergei Lyakhovich, a supposed "friend" of his, would be no match for today's holyfield a year ago when he held the title.
