Hearns by KO at WW.
Hearns could not make LWW & Pryor would be ineffective & blown away at LMW.

Hearns would smoke him at WW or JM, Pryor was too easy to hit for a rangy shapshooter like Tommy... Forget their Amatuer encounter, Hearns wasnt a puncher then and Pryor much more mature and stronger at the time.

Even though Pryor beat Hearns as an amateur, I'd have to pick Hearns with both guys in their professional primes.

Hearns was a pure boxer as an amateur with a very low KO %. Totally different fighter as a pro.

exactly. Hearns as a professional against Pryor is bad for Pryor. It just matters how many rights Pryor would want to take.

Well we can take Hearns based on dimensions but I don't know why. People might want to assess what the stylstic weaknesses are of wither man before taking Hearns based on dimensions. Anyway, I take Hearns because the thread title says prime for prime, and that means Hearns is two weight divisions above Pryor, and therefore it is an unfair match up in favour of Tommy. Pryor moved up to 140 because he had a nightmare getting a title shot at 135, and for me Hearns was at his best at 154.

I don't know. If Pryer could stay on top of him, not letting him extend his punches, he could barrage Hearns with punches. And knock him out.

Let me be a dissenting voice then. I think Pryor's swarming attack and angles would be a tough cookie for Hearns to swallow at any time anywhere. Lanky Boxer-punchers classically struggle with this type and Pryor had the speed, power, and durability as well as punch variety to really get inside of hearns' cannon's, not to mention head movement.

I think he would KO Hearns in middle-late, say the 8th or 9th.

Well this is what I was getting at. I pick Hearns because the thread says prime for prime, and that means they are not in the same weight division, therefore it is unfair and in Hearns' favour. But if these guys say were both prime and in the same division and the physical advantages remained relative (Tommy being taller etc) then I don't see why people want to write Pryor off. If Pryor was coming to box exclusively on the outside then yes I see it, but he isn't, he's coming to fight how you just described him as doing.

Well i think the concept of a prime hearns is hard to nail but I was just picking a great version, say, the one that lost to leonard to make it a little even versus Pryor at about 140lbs or a little more. I reckon someone like aaron could do pretty good against hearns.

I see your point in theory but I do think in actuality if they got in the ring together it wouldn't happen for him. I mean, Pryor wasn't even a big 140 man, originally hitting good form at 135. I see what you mean though stylistically. You made a good post.

Roberto Duran would like to have swarmed Hearns too. In fact, thats exactly what he tried to do and ended up on his face.

Pryor was a bad dude in his prime, but I feel he was best at lww (assuming this fight is at ww)

With that being said, I think Pryor would give Hearns some tough patches, with his sometimes crazy high punch count. But I don't think he would have enough blunt force power early to ko Hearns, and will probably eat one too many rights in the process. Because as sure as Pryor would try to flurry, Hearns will plant and land solids devestating rights. Among other things, Hearns' awesome jab would give Pryor hell.

Hearns KO4 Pryor(@ww)

Pryor(Black Bottle version) Tko10 Hearns
