Default P4P Greater Fighter: Canto or Locche?

Miguel Canto or Nicolino Locche? Also, are they close for you? Why/why not? How highly do you rate them? Justifiable top 50?

I had to vote for Locche..the difference id very slim..but Locche's longevity and of course his rare brand of defensive genius made the difference...the margin is still slim.

Canto would have whipped him.

A much better and more efficient overall technician, though Locche is your man for putting on hilarious clinics against unskilled brawling types.

How can a guy have a record of 117-4-14...only stopped one time, near the end of his career, and that by a tko of the cut eye variety...never truly ko'ed.
Miguel Canto was a great flyweight champion and like I said, the difference between him and Locche is very slim indeed. In fact, Canto is my favorite alltime fly...but Locche, despite the almost comical way he was able to make his opposition look foolish, had to have more on the ball than you say to be able to have so ridiculously successful and long career..again, he was supremely gifted and was indeed "Untouchable"..and I say this even though some cynicism may be brought into play with the 14 draws of his career, and "Argentine draw" they may be.

Would Carlos Ortiz, Antonio Cervantes(first fight), Ismael Laguna, Eddie Perkins and Carlos Hernandez fall into the "unskilled brawling types" category?

I had to go with Locche. Never punched out, could well have ended his career with a wizardly showdown for the ages against young prodigy Benitez, and shutting out Pambele over the championship distance is insane.

Canto at his best was a sight to behold, and his stoppage of Jiro Takada needs to be on youtube, but nothing El Maestro did measures up to how Nicotino clowned and schooled Cervantes. (And Cervantes-Locche II should NOT have been stopped with El Intocable so ready to continue. That was still anybodies fight.)

Right...he wasn't hurt at all..and if anything, the defeat could be attributed to old age and the inevitable eroding of his once supernatural skills as much as anything Cervantes did. Locche was just incredible..the more I look at his record I'm convinced that he was the peer of Willie Pep..definitely one of the greatest defensive masters of boxing history.

It would be horrific to behold a fight beween these two.

canto, the consummate honest technician going up against a vulgar caricature of defensive boxing.Locche was finesse with all the subtlety stripped out.

Sure, he's a useful tool to get casual or non boxing fans into the ways of the defensive stylist....because of his consistently over the top heavy handed approach to the sweet science, but really i would have thought the more serious afficionado on here would have moved on by now.

Here you compare the effortlessly efficient and economical approach of an unsung master, with a balding stocky chain smoker who at any moment looked as if he might start eating his own shoe while winking at the audience.

I'll take Canto UD straight up, no need for any P4P conjecture.

I like the cut of your jib, absurd claims about a flyweight beating a 140 pound man aside.
