WHy did John Duddy quit?

Anyone know why he quit? did he get fed up with it?

I get the impression he quit becos of pride, he didnt want to continue incase he lost a 3rd time?

He could have gone on a got better, and landed some big money.... why did he quit soo soon?

pride not a word is use with duddy

his heart wasnt in it. getting up to run, sparring, hitting bags, he said it just felt like work he didnt want to do.

He could have took HBOs $100,000, fought lee, put in a shit showing and retired. instead he did the honourable thing and stepped aside

Because he fancies himself too much, is too fond of the drink and lives near woodside in Queens New York which is a sure way to make any Northy turn into a drunken dick. Why train when he could be in maggie mays or sidetracks??

To be fair, I'd call the latter pride.

I liked duddy but he would never be come a world champ ever.... so I think he just got tired of the game and said fuck it.

If you knew the manner in which he had been messed about promotionally up to this point by his team and how he had been exploited you would understand his loss of love for the game.

Thomas Hauser wrote an in depth article detailing how for such a massive draw he was earning pitiful amounts due to the contracts that he was under. His promoters denied him a title shot in Ireland because they (the promoters not Duddy) would make more money fighting a no name opponent.

He was also denied a 1.7 million payday versus Taylor by the same management in case he clocked on to how much he was being left out of pocket.

Duddy told Hamilton and Friedman that he’d never been shown a record of the income received by Irish Ropes with regard to any of the cards that he’d fought on. Not exactly $1.7 but his promotional contract said that his promoters would take 20% off of his purse so he would still be looking at about $1.3mil. With his promoters making a tidy 350k just for licensing their fighter to the network. They knew they could however make more money by paying Duddy as little as $60-20k whilst earning themselves 200k+
