Does anyone know what's going one with Sasha Povetkin? The last news about him seems to have been the January controversy, when Sauerland said that Teddy Atlas would be scrapped as trainer. That announcement seems to have been premature, though. But since then, no news regarding Povetkin.
Why has Povetkin been inactive? |

Heard he broke his hand agaisnt Firtha.
But lets be honest here- this shit has been going on for three years now. I don't think the man wants to be a proffesional fighter. The burden of proof is now on him. |

He's just landed in American right now for a 3 week training camp with Atlas today.

I really think (and I know this sounds crazy) its because Povetkin is Russian and the Klitschkos are Ukrainians. There's some political trouble in that part of the world right now and I believe they don't want to add to it...

You are overstating the magnitude of Ukrainian-Russian political tensions. |

Good to hear he's actually doing something. There are so many interesting fights he could be involved in, I hope Theodore Atlas actually has a proper plan- although I expect that plan is to wait for one or more of the brothers to retire. Not a bad idea, but he should fight better fighters in the meantime

In those threee wasted years he has faced nothing like another real contender, and even talked about going back to the amatuers. Bullshit. If he wants to fight, then fight. Making a guy go through training camp and finding reasons to pull out is garbage. |

He should, for this fight, go back to his old swarmer style, and just throw more punches than Chag. |

depends on what Chagaev has left imo. he was in pretty bad condition in that fight with Walker who pushed him around what Wlad and Valuev couldnīt do. Also he took shots he normally avoids easily but it was the same in that fight with Drumond after he got cut. Its been romoured hes suffering from detached retina and bad visions for years but he had ups and downs his entiere career so maybe he can get himself in proper shape again for a major fight like this with his career at stake. I agree Povetkin should be able to outwork him. Chagaev in my opionen is the better boxer by quite some stretch but has always tended to be lazy with his punches. But however who knows how Povetkin is going to perform under Atlas guidance in a real fight. Its a decent crossroads fight imo
