Prime Chagaev would have stopped Sasha, this version has a 30% chance at best. Guess Povetkin by clear UD, something like 8-4 or 9-3 in rounds.

It's tough to say. Chagaev looked decent against Meehan but awful against Walker. He has a great chin but he's clearly lost something. Povetkin is an unkown quantity at this point which is strange considering he has wins over chambers and byrd, but his lack of activity and decent opponents over the last three years is disconcerting. He has looked lethargic and poor in some of these fights too. He still gets caught way too much. I'd slightly favor Povetkin on pts. like Bodhi 8-4 or 7-5ish.

I like the matchup but it's disgracful this is for another WBA paper title and will be billed as such. Even though a Povetkin win creates another legit challenger for Wlad, I am convinced the Sauerland mob will never ever let this fight happen. A mandatory for almost three years and he bottles two fights. If I was K2, I wouldn't even bother either. They did the same thing with Valuev. Shameful. So I'm rooting for Chagaev.

I like Povetkin in this one, by clear cut or wide UD. Sasha should outbrawl Chagaev in a competitive fight. Chagaev will connect often, but he doesn't really have the power to hold Povetkin off. If Povetkin lets his hands go, he will outpunch Chagaev on the inside.

Povetkin can't lose as long as he fights his fight, and applies maximum pressure.

Its a great match up. Should be a good fight too. It might come down to who wants it more in the late rounds. Either way, the winner here is the clear #3 man after Vitali and Wlad.

The best fighters Povetkins faced as a pro Donald, Chambers, Byrd, Estrada arent exactly punchers. Chagaev has better one punch power than Povetkin imo. I do think Povetkin will be able to take it but don't be suprised to see him get busted up,swelling, cuts, etc. Povetkin's stamina, workrate and combination punching will probably be the difference. Chagaev does throw in combination but usually no more than 3 punches at a time while Povetkin will let loose with 3-6 punch combos. I would also much rather see Povetkin fight against Klychko (hopefully he grows balls) instead of Chagaev again.

Will be interesting to see where both guys are at in their careers especially with Chagaev who i was suprised to realize is only 32, i thought he was older. How Povetkin's attempt at changing his style will go against a legit HW (and without Atlas in his corner). But i fully expect it to be a competitive and exciting fight, with both guys style i don't see how it couldn't. Really looking forward to this.

Good post. I would agree that Chagaev hits a little harder, but he doesn't open up as much as Povetkin does. This should be a very competitive and exciting fight.
