I remember Naz ate quite a bit just before his fights on 1 or 2 occassions.... Still knocked 'em out.

It does effect fighters but only to an extent.

Also depends what kind of fight it is, if it's long enduring fight then an upset stomach will effect the boxer.

But like I said it's only to an extent, I can guarantee if Pac-man had a full sunday roast a hour before a fight he will still destroy Marquez.

Think how many times you ate just before you've done some physical activity, i.e played football, it probably has only affected your performance by probably 5%.

Think back to school days when you ate crap and then you had p.e straight afterwards hey.

Theres a bit of a difference between having a kick around with your mates or Mickey Mouse exertions in a PE class compared to top level boxing where you should be expecting and prepared to reach your physical limits. That small % makes a difference. I'm pretty sure if you're eating something very close to a fight it should be something pretty small and nutritious like a protein bar or even an energy bar. You don't want to be bloated, you don't want your body working too hard breaking down fries and and a Big Mac in your fat ****ing stomach when it should be helping you recover as efficiently as possible.

It's all relative though, it's about how much it effect your performance, whether you're playing football in the premier league or Sunday league the effects will be the same.

Ok it's different sports/activities but it will only effect you to an extent.

I can guarantee over 95% of boxing matches, wouldn't be have a different outcome if the winner had a 'dirty' meal just before their fight.

That's probably true due to the amount of mismatches we have!

You do not want to have undigested food sitting in your stomach in a sport where you can be punched there.
I have played many a game of football while full of ale and breakfast pizza and done well only because you only have to focus and exert yourself in patches. In a ring you have to 100% all the time.

Yeah you're point on mis-matches is true, probably only 1% of boxing matches can you consider it roughly 50-50, that's why a boxer wouldn't need to be 100% dietary wise before a fight.

And it's true about been at your physical peak is more important in boxing than football; of course level of competition does come into play (as mentioned with the whole mis-match thing).

But yeah if it's a 50-50 or close fight from the outset the right foods before the fight could just be the difference between glory and failure.

A fighter gets extremely edgy in the last hour before a fight, no matter how cool they tell you they are. This is even more the case before a big world championship level unification fight, for example. So to think that an hour before such a fight, a fighter not only has pie and chips on his mind but has the stomach for it is slightly hard to believe. Especially if we remember how nervous certain fighters have looked on their ring walk on such occasions. And whats he been doing all day?!

If they fancy a quick scoff, however, given the relative food deprivation over the previous training regime it shouldn't have much of an effect apart from a sluggishness in punch delivery. If the said fighter, however, did very little defensive work in his training because the trainer relied on the same basic training he used for the most celebrated and naturally talented member of the gym, well then he would've been f*cked anyway. But even if its true its a bollox excuse - steak and kidney pie puts hairs on your chin!

- Agreed.

Pie and Chips and Fizzy Drink would not have helped either.

But he would have still probaly dropped hands and put chin in air - because none of his training really was geared in how to do anything defensive.

Theres rumours cicrculating - more allegations of unprofessionalism from Camp Calzaghe.

Both Enzos spotted in Nandos Manchester - half and hour before the Lebedev fight.
