Second, Ali didn't win more rounds any way you look at it. Rounds 6-8, 10-13, and 15 were unquestionably 8 rounds for Frazier. I also gave Frazier round 3.

But since we're being biased, Frazier also took rounds 5 and 14, so Frazier really won 11-4.

Most rds were close except fraziers big rds, 11 & 15 & the way I separated the fighters was to judge who was landing the more punches & that was Ali.

Just because joe was smiling & walking through about 6 or 7 Ali head shots then landing 2 or 3 body shots doesnt mean he`s winning the fight... bravado doesnt score points & that judge who gave Ali just 4 rds should be given the type of beating that would be dished out to bin laden in the streets of new york... or even worse.... the beating Ali gave frazier march 71.

& here you are, this is the key. The way you do it...for me, if Ali had been given that decision, Frazier would have been robbed. As it was, Frazier won a close decision.

Frazier won the FOTC hands down and solidified the win with the knockdown in the fifteenth round. This fight arguably changed the scope of how fights are scored. Ali landed more punches than Frazier that night, but Frazier landed more power punches than Ali overall. It really depends on what the judges favour in terms of punches landed. Ali landed plenty of jabs and crosses that were much lighter shots compared to Frazier's punches. Only once did I remember Frazier moving backwards in round 7 or 8, mocking Ali with his head movement and making him miss. Frazier's aggression was effective that night which counted in the scoring. People forget that Ali did most of the clinching in the FOTC and that counts against him in the scoring.

In the second fight, Ali landed more punches backing up again and I think the judges this time gave him the decision because Frazier landed less punches even though his were again the heavier punches. I will say that Frazier's aggression in the second fight was not as effective as the first fight because Ali was up on his toes boxing more. The bad thing about the second fight is that Ali's punches seemed lighter in the second fight and looked liked he was trying just to win the rounds by throwing more punches. Perez let him pull Frazier behind the head repeatedly without warning and that's where some of the controversy still remains from the second fight. Who knows if Ali would have had Frazier down in the second round if Perez didn't mistakingly hear the bell. Still, this fight could have gone either way and a draw would seem the more reasonable decision. Ali's legacy would certainly be tarnished if he had lossed two in a row to Frazier.

People need to learn how to score a fight...they need to offer a class...so that this type of post does not occur in the future!

Come on, let's be serious folks, if Ali had been given the decision that night it would be rembered now has "The Robbery Of The Century".

I thought Ali won 6 rounds AT THE MOST.
In fact I scored it 9-4-2 for Frazier, but I'll say 9-6 out of sheer generosity.
I could just as easily give the even ones to Frazier for an 11-4 score, but why be so unkind to Ali ?
Ali lost. He lost, he lost, he lost, whatever way you look at it.

Agreed.

Watching the fight for the first time, it wasn't as close as I had expected.

No doubt it was competitive, but Frazier was doing too much good work and being effectively aggressive. If Frazier didn't get the decision, it would've been an absolutely terrible robbery.

Ali knew he lost. He left the ring before the decision was announced.

That said, i thought it was pretty close. Ali landed a shitload of jabs and right hands. Even if they don't back Frazier up, they are landing and scoring points.

I certainly have no problem with frazier getting the verdict as it WAS a close fight but here`s what I saw in a nut shell....

Ali landing many more punches.
Ali winning more rds.
Frazier winning the 11th & 15th rds big.
Ali clowning on the ropes when he had a big lead giving away unnecessary points.

I had heard how frazier beat Ali in that fight & watched expecting just that but what I saw was a quite even fight which I gave to Ali as I dont think the big 11th & 15th rds were enough to overtake Ali`s other rds that he built up.

1 judge only gave Ali 4 rds... that was a pure utter disgrace.
People always point to the FOTC as to who was better in their prime because it was their 1st fight & I agree.... I watch that fight & think how dominant a 1967 Ali would be over Frazier... clear UD.
Don't feel bad. There was a sportscaster named Art Rust Jr. who felt the same way.
