Default Hopkins v Taylor (1&2)

ok, i'm in the process of watching as many hopkins fights and reading as many match reports as I can.

The subject of this thread says it all really; how did you score these two fights?

do you think hopkins won both?
do you think taylor won both?
do you think they won one each?
do you think both were a draw?
do you think hopkins won 1 and drew 1?
do you think taylor won 1 and drew 1?

I'm currently watching these two fights without sound so I can gauge my own judgement on how I see these fights.

I will post my scorecard as the fight finishes.

i had hopkins winning the first fight 7-5 and had taylor winning the second fight 7-5. hopkins was robbed on the cards in the first fight because of duane ford, i believe, scoring the 12 rd for taylor in which taylor was completely gassed and dominated. the fight would have been a draw and hopkins would have kept his titles if he'd had a clue on how to judge.

Muting the audio of a fight shouldn't make a difference in scoring a fight.Only idiots get mislead by blatant cheerleading-type commentators.

I had the first fight even and Taylor winning by a single point in the rematch.I like and respect Hopkins, but I've never seen a case for him being robbed in either.

Don't be fooled by the SD. That one judge was a "Golden Boy Promotions" judge. There was one in the Calzaghe-Hopkins fight too, and the Mayweather-DeLaHoya fight. These judges are there to make Oscar and BHop look good, without actually robbing the result.

to me hopkins clearly won the first fight and did it rather easily. i say hopkins 8 rounds to 4. he dominated the last 4 rounds, won the 5th and the third round and i would give him even rounds since he's the champ.
Taylor was the champ in the second fight, and so he therefore won ten he even rounds in the rematch making it 115 - 113 taylor. the second fight was very close. to me the, first fight was easily hopkins. the only rounds taylor won were the ones hopkins let him.

when you watch hopkins fights, notice none of his wins are 'questionable'. they are all decisive victories. also notice the variety of styles and opponents he faced and the different styles he fights to neutralize them. also notice that he doesn't get close rounds. hopkins usually dominates the rounds that he wins. this leads judges to believe if he didn't dominate the round, then he lost the round, hence the decisions against calzaghe and taylor (each who maybe only dominated one round against hopkins combined). one more thing to notice during hopkins' fights is that win or lose, he always looks like the winner at the end of the fight and his opponent always looks like the loser.

I don't recall the second fight that well, but in the first fight Hopkins pretty much gave away the first 8 rounds.

Ok, i watched the first fight in full just now.

taylor dominated the first 4 off his jab, hopkins didn't seem able to time it nor evade it particularly well.

from round 5 onwards the term "effective aggression" does not apply to taylor, he wastes a lot of punches. round 5 was a swing round imo, but i felt hopkins landed the cleaner effective punches.

round 6 was another swing round, but this time i felt taylor landed the better shots. hopkins defence wasn't as prevalent in this round.

round 7-12 i felt hopkins was the ring general, his punches were much more effective and his defence was far superior. infact taylor looked quite poor defensively overall and was it not for his quick hands the guy wouldn't have got very far imo. there is now way that taylors aggression at this point can be called effective, yes it made hopkins turn away and regroup but it seemed to have no real impact on hopkins plan, strategy nor output.

I scored it 115-113 hopkins. round 5 could go either way but so could 6 imo. a draw would be fair, but on my card hopkins took it.

as an aside, i noticed lederman gave 7 and 8 to taylor, i have no idea why. as i said my sound isn't working so maybe some shots sounded particularly loud? i dunno.

i am about to start fight number 2 now.
