Default How good was Tim Austin?

I hardly ever hear anyone talk about this guy. He was a hell of a puncher and i liked his Southaw Style. The Marquez defeat finished him but he made alot of defenses of his IBF Belt and he was very talented. How do you rate him?

No, that was Mark ''Too Sharp'' Johnson who Marquez fought twice.

Very good fighter, shame he couldn't keep on the straight and narrow outside of the ring.

"Legal troubles

Shortly after the loss to Marquez, Austin was accused, and later acquitted, of raping a 16 year old girl.[1] With his legal troubles behind him, Austin resumed his career in 2005 but his comeback was quickly derailed when he lost via TKO to journeyman Eric Aiken, who went on to win the IBF Bantamweight Title.

Austin had another run in with the law in January 2008. He was arrested and charged with domestic violence after allegedly threatening to kill his wife, and for kicking and punching her about the face.[2]"

So says Wikipedia.

He was considered pound for pound at one time as was Mark "Two Sharp" Johnson, both Marquez victims. Good, small black fighters. Little apollo creed's if you will.

Wlad KO'd him with three left hooks? He was alright. Good jab, bit slow.

He was a good/very good fighter, but mismanaged. Basically, he got the title and was fighting like one or two fights against so-so fighters each year. He was already pretty old when he got the title considering the weight class, and was past his best when Rafa got to him.

That would be Ray Austin.

Tim Austin was a lot smaller, and a whole lot better.

He was well regarded and undefeated, but not as well regarded as Too Sharp. Now that guy when he was at the top of his game was a beast. I remember him calling out Johnny Tapia what a hell of a fight that would of been. Damn shame. Dont remember who Rafa beat first, but was damn surprised he beat Austin and even more surprised when he beat Too Sharp.
