I knew Dick , he was a great guy.. he was one of Sonny's first managers, and was most prominent along with Doc Broadus in orchestrating Georges career from Jobs corps, thru Olympics to the championship... I attended a fabulous luncheon in 1995 at the Trop in vegas to celebrate Doc , Dick and anyone associated with Georges success, George wanted appearance money so didn't show up , (Asshole) but hundreds did including Archie Moore, Eddie Futch, Thell Torrence, Sean O Grady, Ray Mancini, Lennox Lewis, Art Miles, Tim Griffin, Wayne McCullough, Manny Steward... and more, everyone loved Doc and Dick, both now sadly passed... I spoke to Dick a lot about the relationship he had with the mob, Ash Resnick, Davey Pearl, Plinky Palermo, Frank Carbo etc...... He was so accomodating and even met me at his home for lunch in his Summer residence... I miss him and those guys... Shame George didn't respect what them fellers did for him....... God Bless...

I don't think the Sadler's did well for Foreman.... Sure they managed to rack up 40 wins and take the title from Frazier in '73, but even with 40 pro fights under George's belt, he still was making big amateurish flaws in his approach... Gil Clancy, Archie Moore, Charlie Shipes and Angie Dundee were better teachers than Sadler....

If I remember correctly from George's auto, he would "dry out" George, then in the dressing room give him a glass of water. Like a treat! Terrific game plan in ordinary weather before any extremely difficult physical activty. AWESOME game plan in hot weather. George may have often been dehydrated to the point of at least slightly inhibiting his performances then? I'm skeptical he ever really had serious stamina issues (by nature, I mean).

No, No, No....... Sadler was already fired / let go by Foreman when the 'Young' fight occurred in '77..... And, no way was Foreman dehydrated at 229 pounds in that fight, either.... Foreman was with Gil Clancy and his ego and attitude was soaring high as a kite in which Gil later said he had enough of.....

Foreman claimed the Sadler's kept him weak by being too lean at 217 and 220 pounds in 1973 and 1974....

Foreman later said by 1976 he was feeling good at 225 pounds.....

By 1980, Foreman was preaching on the pulpit in Texas and weighing 300 pounds.....

So which fight did he claim dehydration? I know it wasnt Zaire. I do remember reading somewhere Sadler coping flak over some outrageous shit, whether rightly or wrongly

Dick Saddler was the guy who George said in re the Zaire fight,
Told me to drink this.. George said it "tasted medicinal"
Two years later Dick Saddler popped up in Alis corner vs Norton in Yankee Stadium.
It raised a few eyebrows

This is interesting.
There's been speculation on other threads recently over how familiar Dick Saddler was with those guys.

Filthy rich Big George demanding appearance money just to show up and help celebrate a guy who helped George out when he was younger. What a louse!
