Default How many of Vitali Klitschko's opponents were ranked?

I'm just curious if anyone knows. I could be wrong, but I think it possible that Danny Williams, Corrie Sanders, Timo Hoffman, Larry Donald, Kirk Johnson, Vaugn Bean, Obed Sullivan, Herbie Hide, and Ed Mahone, may all have been ranked.

I'm also not necessarily looking for ring magazine ratings, but the governing body listings, if anyone knows.

I don't know.

The Ring rankings you can just look up on boxrec, but the alphabet rankings will be harder to dig up.

Yeah, I've never really been successful at looking up alpha ratings myself. I'm guessing that most of the men who I listed, had to have been rated, because some of those fights were for titles of one kind or another.

Top 10 Ring?

Williams - probably bottom end but maybe shouldnt have been, had lost to Sprott the year before and would go on to lose to Audley in 1 round after losing to Skeleton. Also lost to the might of Sinal Sam and Julian Francis

Sanders - YES, coming off a massive win

Hoffman - NO WAY, never top 10

Donald - NO, coming off a loss and a draw

Johnson - YES but probably bottom end after losing to Ruiz

Bean - NO WAY, never top 10

Sullivan - NO WAY, never top 10

Hide - maybe was ranked but he never beat a ranked opponent himself. Also 1999 was an excellent year and he probably wasnt cracking the top 10 with the likes of Lewis, Tyson, Holyfield, Byrd, Ike Ibeauchi, Tua, Golota, Vitali, Wlad, Briggs, Rahman, Ruiz all on the scene

Mahone - No way, never top 103

Governing bodies Top10s are garbage so they arent to be included - lets not forget dead men being ranked (literally), McNeely being ranked, etc etc

Legendary names, yes. There are no Holyfields, Tysons, Lewis's, Foremans or Holmes' on his win record. He does however, have a fair amount of wins over some of the better contenders of his time, for whatever thats worth.

Ranked by The Ring: Herbie Hide (#7), Kirk Johnson (#5), Corrie Sanders (#3) and Danny Williams (#9).

Ranked by the WBA/WBC/IBF/WBO: Herbie Hide (WBO belt), Ed Mahone, Obed Sullivan, Vaughn Bean, Larry Donald, Kirk Johnson, Corrie Sanders (WBO belt) and Danny Williams.

At one time, Vitali was the #1 contender for all the sanctioning bodies (or, at least, the WBC, WBA and WBO). Wlad was in the same position in late 2005.

i dont think you can consider sanders a "ranked" fighter. cause fighters usually fall from the rankings after a year of inactivity.

and corrie had been inactive for over a year if i remember right.

so he should be off the list imo.

Thanks a lot. Just so I know, where can you still look up gverning body ratings of previous years? A long time ago, I collected ring mags, and there was a section of the magazine that showed the ratings of the IBF, WBC and WBA. That was long ago though.

yeah but he was coming off a second round knockout over Wlad 13 months earlier, which was for a title. I don't think he could have fallen out completely.

Well, some posters have actually made some nice contributions to this thread by listing quite a few men who he defeated. I'm not saying that Williams, Sanders, Hide, Hoffman, or any of the others were great fighters, but they weren't bums either, and were obviously ranked fighters at the time. I also want to point out, that he was winning both the Byrd and Lewis fights before sustaining injuries that forced him to resign, which was no fault of his own.

Kirk Johnson truelly was a "harpooned whale" when he fought vitali. he weighed in at an obese 261lb, about 30-35lb overweight of his regular 230lb total. He looked disgusting, johnson shouldnt even have been granted a boxing liscense to fight being in the kind of shape he was in.

btw, anyone know what happened to my former enemy Dr. Z?

Dr. Z left ESB to start his own forum, but never really got it off the ground. I haven't spoken nore heard from him in months.
