Default Why So Many Glass Jaws In MMA?

What is it? Did all those guys get their Glass Jaws shattered trying boxing and were forced into rolling around with other men? I have given this sport a chance so many times but all I see is Glass Jawed jokes terrified to get their Mandibles shattered - so they "take down" the other guy are roll around on the floor for 5 minutes.

Here's my theory. The UFC is MMA's equivalent to HBO World Championship Boxing, ie it's the top show with the best fighters and the most people watching. However, whereas HBO boxing generally relegates Glass Jawed Frauds to the nontelevised undercard, UFC puts these China Chinned Disgraces in main events and reality shows to put over their "prospects" when in reality these bums should be plying their trade at the local strip club's fight night. Therefore, there aren't really that many more Glass Jawed Jokes in MMA, we're just exposed to them more.

ok your an idiot boxers have much thicker gloves mma fighters have 4oz gloves and 5minutes in the cage is much more intense than 2minute rounds getting kicked, elbowed, knee'd and slammed hurts much more in the first 3 rounds than in the first 3 rounds in boxing and by the way get the **** off the mma forums go to sherdog or bushido because you obviously do not know anything.

i believe its a combination of small gloves and usually the exchanges are wild and as always its the punch you dont see that leaves you out cold.

You have to put in account that you also get knocked out by knees elbows and kicks which provide a bigger blow than a punch.

or..........their jaws are REALLY horrible.

because you need a good chin to box and get on hbo, but you do not need a good chin to win at mma.

Matt Lindland, Jonathan Goulet, Wanderlei Silva, and Chuck Liddell would all beg to disagree. You get the occasional guy that can work his way around a Glass Jaw just like you do in boxing but proper punch resistance is still a critical component for success in any sport that involves punching.

no doubt, i think its a little easier for a guy in mma to work around it though, so they get much further before they are exposed.

Agreed. In boxing you can't dry hump your opponent every time your Fragile Mandible is touched.

In my day if you were in the ring and hit your opponent with a punch or two and he went down, he would get the count of 8 to get back up. Now, when I watch MMA, an opponent gets hit by a punch, drops down to his knees, grabs the guys legs that threw the punch and the commentators start yelling, "WHAT A GREAT TAKE DOWN"?
In my day, this is not a sign of a MAN, it's a sign of a *****, but today in this day and age, this is accepted.

It was once a manly thing to do and stand toe to toe exchanging punches and it takes a certain kind of individual to be able to tough it out in this manner, but today it's different and grabbing ones ankles is deemed skillful....

I think Khan gets treated a little bit harsh. He was caught cold by some brutal ****ing shots. His defence was piss poor back then and he's not iron chinned but those shots he took flush would have KO'd a shitload of fighters. He's done well to come back and keep going after than tbh.
