Default Ernesto Marcel Vs Eusebio Pedroza

Two technically proficient and stylish 126lb champions.

Who takes it over 15?

You already posted on the other one so I had your opinion.

Only you replying again would mean it would get the same amount of responses as the other one

Its still nice to feel wanted!

My opinion hasnt changed much. I'd say Marcel is probably the quicker fighter and more crisp in his shots, so in any exchanges he would come out trumps.

I'd back Pedroza, but then I haven't seen enough of Marcel to make the call. Just the clip against Arguello. He doesn't impress as much there as the words of many would have me believe, but I suppose I'll just have to catch some more of him. Someone needs to upload more of him to the Tube.

Edit: Forgot I'd also seen the Duran fight. He does impress me there, although the stoppage is one of the most mind-boggling things I've seen. Marcel's entire demeanor in that fight concerns me, actually. It looks like a fight he could've won if he'd taken the initiative. I'd back the Pedroza of the Ford fight to take him out of his element in a similar manner.

He is great against Shibata, some point to the Gomez rematch as a good look at his skills, but IMO Gomez didnt offer much, Shibata is a tricky opposition for him and its a really good display of Marcel adapting and changing to keep on top of Shibata, an absorbing tactical contest.

The stoppage is the Duran fight is abysmal. A green but ferocious Duran, very close going into the last IMO.

Have yet to watch the Shibata fight. A robbery by all accounts.

Pedroza remains underappreciated IMO. Moreso than Marcel considering how recent he is/amount of footage/amount of defences.

I haven't seen enough of Marcel to make an out right definite confident pick. But I'd go with Pedroza, he has more of a championship mentality, would be stronger down the stretch imo, more physical, rougher, dirtier, better worker of the body. Even though I think Marcel is an equal boxer in the early going, I see Pedroza taking over around after the middle rounds

I would favor the quicker and sharper-hitting Marcel over the overrated hugger/grappler Pedroza.

I can't see how Marcel's toughness can be questioned here, he took Duran and Arguello the full route (bullshit stoppage in the Duran fight not counted). Pedroza never faced guys on that level and looked vulnerable against much lesser comp. If anyone's toughness should be questioned it's his imo. Not that this will come down to toughness anyway..

Imo Marcel is a better outboxer than Pedroza quite clearly - quicker and more accurate as M2S said. Pedroza will have to find his way inside to gain an advantage against Marcel, but I simply can't see him getting there often enough to win the fight. His inability to close the ring on a one-track minded Bernard Taylor being my key reason to doubt him. Did he simply not bother to close the ring on Taylor given that he thought he would take the decision simply by pursuiing? Maybe, but even when he did try and initiate some action, he didn't look comfortable doing it.

Marcel would win about 10 rounds to 5 imo. Maybe a little closer.

Well I've seen the Gomez and Shibata fights now. And way more of Pedroza.

Marcel takes this. Proven against better technical operators than Pedroza was IMO. He just dominated Gomez, a brilliant operator from what I've seen (and wins over Cervantes and De Jesus would suggest he was as good as he looked against the very good Saijo) and although Pedroza faced his share of Panamanian stylists (Carrasquilla and Jujan) they pale in comparison to the all-round game of Marcel.

Both could slip and counter well in the inside. Pedroza more adept and smooth doing it perhaps (and dug to the body/kidney/balls well) but Marcel showed a similar gear when slipping and popping against Arguello when getting his second wind.

It could go either way, but Marcel was the better fighter IMO. Robbed against Shibata, who was a featherweight of the highest quality.
