That's not how it works. The only way to usurp the #1 guy is to beat him in the ring, unless he retires or doesn't fight for a year. So if Mayweather looks impressive against Ortiz (which he will b/c Ortiz is still a glorified prospect at this point with only one big win) it will likely place Mayweather at #2 on legitimate lists worldwide. He can't get #1 back until he mans up and fights Pacquiao, plain and simple.

I think after he beat Mosley he should of been placed back to #1 considering the dude still have never lost a fight yet. If he does beat Ortiz I don't see why he shouldn't be consider #1 p4p.

Mosley when he fought Floyd was either #3 or unlisted on the lists that take fighters off after more than 12 months of inactivity. Floyd was #2 after beating Marquez.

Divisional rankings are a totally different entity than p4p rankings, which is all subjective and hypothetical. Regardless of how the Ring Magazine ranks Ortiz, he's NOT a proven fighter like Dzindiruk has been over the past few years. And regardless, I said May should #2 ABOVE Martinez so why argue the point?

Marquez>>>>>Ortiz so as long as Pac gets a "W" his status doesn't drop. The best Mayweather can hope for is a #2 spot.

Actually that is how it works whether you agree with it or not. This isn't the WW rankings, its the P4P list. The P4P list is based off people's opinions. Many people's criteria for a fighter to make their P4P list is different. Some people believe skill plays an important part while others believe accomplishments to be more important. Some believe Paq is #1, others say Floyd, and even some believe Bernard or Martinez. See how it works.
