Get it straight, glass jaw denier. He said not much amateur experience - not none.

And if you are trying to imply that Wilder has a Mercer-like chin, well we will see who's right about that.

Mercer never tasted canvas against the Harold Sconiers of the world. Heck, he didn't taste canvas until he fought Evander ****ing Holyfield!!!

His ability to take the punches will improve naturally as he puts on weight, and he should improve his defense.

That being said, if he is struggling with Scoiners, he has a long way to go.

When is this man starting to get some serious fights???

He's brought as slow as JCC jr. While he was coming off an olympic medal.

Or don't they believe in his abilities and are they trying to built some insane 40-0 (40ko) record and then cash him out against either of the Klits?

Why are people talking so much about Wilder? There is a new Wilder thread almost every day. He is not relevant. He is not even in the top-50 in the current hw-scene. Seth Mitchell is far more better and promising prospect.

Ali was dropped early in his career by Sonny Banks... you couldn't say his chin was anything but granite... it happens

Jeez, first there is somebody comparing Wilder's chin to Ray Mercer, now Ali. What's next, George Chuvalo???

But Sonny Banks was a somebody, Sconiners...not so much.

I think in a lot of ways it is a good comparison. They say that you either got a good chin, or you don't, but guys like Ali and Floyd Patterson give that the lie. Ali is an example of someone who's chin got much better as he put on weight, and Deontay will be the same.

Still, Scoiners...man, thats bad.

You are wrong again, Cachi.

Ali could always take a great punch, just as much at the beginning of his career as at the end. The only difference is that he learned, eventually, not to be such a sucker for left hooks. Banks and Cooper knocked Ali down with left hooks, timed to counter Ali's right uppercut just as he lowered his right shoulder to unleash the punch. Frazier decked Ali for the same reason in 1971.

The older Ali wasn't so ****y about tossing the right uppercut. That's why he didn't get floored by left hooks in his later years.

Sconiers may punch harder than you realize. Sometimes mediocre fighters -- guys with low KO ratios and poor won/lost ratios -- have power. It's just that they are so mediocre in other ways, such as speed, athleticism, etc., that they rarely hit someone cleanly, and thus don't have big KO records.

But even if my hypothesis is true, it is discouraging that Wilder was even hit by a fighter of Sconier's calibre. So overall, I would have to agree with you that the handwriting may be on the wall for Wilder.

Let's see how Wilder does against the first tough clubfighters (i.e., solid "B" level fighters) he faces. If he dominates and KO's them, that's good. But if he has to struggle to win, or if he wins in very unimpressive fashion, that's a bad sign. Of course, if Wilder loses to these guys, that's it for him.

Don't be an idiot.

Angelo Dundee ADMITTED that he had to cheat with the glove to survive the Cooper fight. As Ali matured and put on weight, he was taking punches off Formen and Lyle.

And there are plenty of instances of him getting tagged with hooks.
