Default What times should i be aiming for 3 miles??

Does anyone here know what a fit amature boxer should be running 3 miles in? I've heard 6 minutes a mile would be a normal time but others say its to fast. So any input would be great

6 minute miles are very fast. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a bul****ter.

Sub 20 minutes for 3 miles is very, very good, that's what you should aim for, at least initially.

My best time for a 3 miler is 17 mins, though anything under 22 mins is good.

Not a big fan of running, but its super important.

I kept increasing distance when I could run 3 miles at 8 min a mile. I just do 5 miles in 40 mins.

umm maybe because boxing is a sportthat requires extreme fitness and running 3 miles as fast possible develops that fitness?

20-25mins is more than enough. 5 k is the longest distance an amateur needs to run imo. Unless its a jog for whatever reason.

If you've just started running get on the treadmill and put it straight on 10 mph. Unless you're very fit already you'll be gasping like **** after about 2 minutes.

What specific aspect of fitness does it improve?

If you can run it in under 20 minutes the olympic gold medal is as good as yours.

I can do it in 16.30 but I do my marathons in under 3 hours.

What do you want to achieve by running 3 miles, I would suggest a session of sprints

1 x 25metre
1 x 50 metre
1 x 100 metre
1 x 200 metre
1 x 400 metre

walk the same distance as a recovery then ......

do it in reverse, you should get a lot more out of this than running 3 miles.
