Pre Crocop Wand was an absolute beast. I think a lot of you are remembering Wand in light of his last 10 or so fights when during his prime he was as pure a knockout artist/ finisher as there ever was. He buzzed you, he put you out and thats just how it was when he was in his prime. Just take a look at his record when he was on his tear, this is a guy who demolished a young Rampage. Just take a look at his record from 2000-2004.

Personally, I think this fight could have gone either way, likely decision. I don't think either guy would shy away from striking. Certainly Bas had a great chin and very good technical standup. Wand had instincts, aggression and power.

****ing huge fan of both these guys, but some of you are some haters.

you are detracting a little from rutten's power....the guy was a beast...not to mention he was blasting guys with open hand strikes

There are this many of you taking Bas with no problems? Give me a break. I have a lot of respect for Bas, and his knowledge, but what has he done in mma to make Wanderlei a no brain win for El Guapo? Wanderlei has wins over Sakuraba, Jackson, Henderson, and Arona. Wanderlei more than proved himself in this sport. Silva is in the running for best ever at 205.

It's hard to judge respective highlights, because Rutten was held to different rules in most of his.

How many times, in 46 fights, has Wanderlei lost by submission? None is the answer.

How many times have you seen Wanderlei out wrestled?

Bas has no significant advantages over Wanderlei, and is far less proven in mma.

He had better subs? Are you basing this on his performances against non bjj guys? BJJ was the wake up call of the 90's.

Better Chin? Based on being hit open handed instead of with a closed fist. I don't think Bas had a bad chin, but it wasn't tested against the same stuff Wanderlei faced.

Wanderlei is way more proven. That is the way it is.

This. Prime Wand was a STUD. Many seem have forgotten that. If Bas were to win he wouldn't have won on his feet. Would have been more likely by submission. Bas never did very well against ultra aggressive fighters. Wand would have been all over him like a rash.

wandy was chinny....i think that is one reason he was super exciting...even saka put him on queer street with one of his loopers...to wandy's credit, he did have great recovery...never took him long to get his head straight
