Now look at this ****en chump...btw he beat the same guy 2 more times after claiming the WBA strap off of him (espada) Pff. Duran looked like he woke up from a nap and took this fight.

He was past his prime by this point. The title reign Cuevas is the version to judge. It all comes down to these things:

A) Cotto wouldn't hurt Cuevas (he was known for his durability prior to the Hearns fight).

B) Cotto lacked the defense and pure boxing skills to keep Cuevas from landing.

C) Once he'd landed a few flush shots, it would be all down hill from there. Cotto isn't the type of fighter that would be able to adapt to that kind of artillery. He'd be on his bicycle until he got stopped.

Cuevas was a sub par boxer...look at his resume if you want to talk about durable. He was known for his punching power and NOT his boxing ability. he wasnt past prime against Duran he just couldnt handle fighters with superior boxing skills, he would cluster if you kept him at the end of a jab.

Uh, yeah he was past his prime against Duran. It's widely acknowledged that Hearns ruined him as a fighter.

Who the hell ever claimed he was some kind of excellent technical boxer? Why do you keep insinuating that it's the point we're making? Was Foreman an excellent technician? No. Do you see a prime Foreman losing to someone like Tony Tucker, though? No. If Cotto were some kind of excellent, adaptable technician you'd have a point. Seeing as that isn't the case, you don't. Angel Espada was better technically than Cotto (albeit lacking in other areas such as heart) and Cuevas handled him on 3 separate occasions.

What Cuevas had was a very good chin, bone-shattering power, and the ability to track an opponent down. If you watch him in his prime you'll note that he actually had very good footwork in that department. He'd take plenty of shots from Cotto, sure, but where he could shrug them off, Cotto wouldn't be able to do the same with Cuevas's blows. The entire fight would play out like the last half of the Margarito bout. He'd get trapped in the corner, tee'd off on, and Cotto would be shaken to the core, effectively shutting down any effective offense he might be able to muster. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Cotto sparked clean out, such was Cuevas's power.

So was Antonio Margarito. But that didn't stop him from pounding Cotto into submission. And loaded gloves or not, Cuevas hit much harder than Margarito and had quicker hands, too.
