this poll is going to hurt for barrera fans, it's the nail in the coffin for who's better between Morales and Marco

MAB is going to get slaughtered on this poll. Mayweather's overrall resume and achievements give him a clear edge. Morales had the distinction of being the only guy to beat a prime Pacquiao, as well as being the first Mexican to win titles in four divisions (arguably five), to go with a solid resume. MAB's feats are not as impressive. His top couple wins are probably better than Floyd's though, just as Morales' were.

Erik Morales beating a rank novice to win a bogus title at 140lbs is about as impressive as Mayweather taking JMM up several divisions. It's a non-factor here. Likewise, although Morales did beat a 126lbs version of Pacquiao in '05, he was also defeated by MAB himself on two seperate occasions. I think that pretty much closes any gap between the two Mexicans. Truth is, Morales was only able to compete with Floyd in a poll situation because he is the sentimental favourite among the hardcore. Like Roberto Duran, like Joe Frazier, Morales appeals to the working class, blue collar crowd. He also holds a special place in the "Pactards" hearts, being, as you rightly point out, the only man to successfully defeat a prime or near-prime Manny pacquiao. Let's not kid ourselves, they are the only reasons the Morales/Mayweather poll was even remotely close. |

I meant that's why Morales is considered closer to Floyd, as evidenced by the poll in that thread. Notice I mentioned the win over Pacquiao to go with a solid resume and being the first Mexican 4 division champ. Torrecampo not quite there yet matching the latter two
