The original date of March 2010 would have been perfect imo. Mayweather had just looked as good as he ever has, dominating a guy who gave Pac all kinds of problems twice. Pac had just proven he could hang with guys at welterweight, brutalising a guy it seemed to some May had avoided. The fight would have been huge financially and meant the most historically as they were closest to being at their best.

2010 was the peak moment for this fight to happen.

Right after Pac beat Cotto and Mayweather beat Marquez.

November 2010, for me.

March 2010 didn’t leave enough time for promotion (Pac fought Cotto only months before, in November). May 2010 wasn’t possible because Pac was off doing his politics ‘ting. Then, by the time May/Sept 2011 came about, most of us were already annoyed and fed up with their bullshit, and there wasn’t a guarantee that both fighters would have been at their best. Floyd had taken a long vacation, and it still remains unknown if Pac hit his ultimate peak back in November 2010. And any dates that follow this, again, will be not be as satisfying. Both guys aren’t getting younger, and the longer it’s delayed, the more the fight is being diluted.

So why November 2010? Well...

Both fighters had just come off dominant victories – Pac against Clottey, and Floyd against Mosley. Pacquiao, as he proved in the subsequent Margarito fight, was at his best, in my opinion. Floyd, in between what he showed in the Mosley and Ortiz fights, wouldn’t have been any different. There’s no doubt in my mind that these two versions would have provided the most entertaining and competitive fight. Not to mention, the ample time for promotion that was available. This was during the point where the fans craving was at an all-time high, too.

I agree, March 2010 was the perfect moment.

Two years later is not ideal.

How is 5 months not enough time to promote a fight which was already stupendously high-profile?

5 months is a long, long time in boxing. That's ample time to do a massive press tour, extended 24/7, blah blah blah.

5 clear months is more than enough.

5 months that would have been taken up by rest for Pacquiao (it was a gruelling fight), a Christmas break, and a looooong negotiating process which wouldn't have finished by mid January, probably. That's approximately a month and a half left for for training.

The fight wasn't so gruelling that Bob Arum would've been too exhausted to negotiate on Pac's behalf right after 14 November.
