After Pac vs Cotto was probably the ideal time, though After Pac-Cottey, Mayweather-Mosley was a pretty good time as well.

After Pac vs Hatton wasn't a good time as Mayweather just came back from retirement and Pac didn't have that credibility of being able to defeat a true WW like Cotto yet. Defeating Cotto eliminated any excuses about Pac being to small.

So the 14 day window was cool with you back then?

Is it still cool with you now?

Somewhere in between March 2010 and November 2010.

Now I'm not saying the bout should have happened in the months in between, but given hindsight, based off of the performances (mainly Pacquiao) during the time period...this would have been the most competitive bout IMO. Pacquiao coming off of a very good win against Cotto and looking strong at the weight...Mayweather looking as impressive as ever against Mosley (bar round 2).

This was the perfect time for this bout IMO, it had everything.

this fight is never gonna happen and if by some chance it ever does, its result won't mean anywhere near as much as what it would have in 2009.

mayweather has held all the cards from day 1, he does not want this fight and it annoys the **** out of me because he would box pacquiao's head off and enhance his status to serious ATG levels. its like these 2 have spent all they're careers getting in a position to make an ATG defining fight and they let the ship sail by. history will always reflect badly on mayweather for this fight never happenning.

After Mayweather beat Mosley or after Pac beat Margarito, that sort of built both of themselves up that little bit more. In the next fight it'll still be equally great. Both are probably moving away from their primes now though so if it goes on much longer it won't be so great, anywhere from 2009-2012 wouldn't make much difference in how it goes down

i say 2010 but not March. May would have been ideal. November wouldnt have been bad either but just any time in 2010 would have been perfect.

Not quite what I meant. Arum did start negotiating right after (around late November), but these negotiations dragged on until mid January 2010; when the fight was officially announced dead. So if they did finally resolve their issues, that would have left approximately two months for training and promotion.

Compare that to the Pac-Hatton fight (took place in May), which was finalized and announced at the end of January - four months before the scheduled date. If Pac-May was to take place in March 2010 like you wanted it to, then they would have had half the time they did for Pac-Hatton. When you factor in all the things involved - press tours, training, etc - that just isn't enough for a fight of such magnitude.

March 2010. No question. Mayweather was younger than he is now. Pacquiao was at the peak of his powers, it seemed. Both have declined a bit since then.

I'd rather see Mayweather v Martinez. Two Iron Chinned Warriors going toe to toe.

I think 2012 is the last possible deadline...if it goes beyond that, they'll surely be in the 'past their prime' category. (Some people are arguing that they're already edging into that area now, so the sooner the better.) It seems that serious decline generally sets in around the mid thirties, and by the late thirties most guys are done. (Aside from some exceptions, like Hopkins.)

I think Roy Jones Jr was around 35 when he was KO'd by Tarver, Ray Leonard was 35 when he lost to Norris, and Whitaker was 35 when he lost to Trinidad. All of those fights pretty much marked the end of their career.

(I could be wrong on the ages, so correct me if so.)

Floyd will be 35 in 2012...

Pac might be a little younger, but he's also gone through some tough, tough wars. Both of these guys are surely approaching the end of their career.

We keep postponing the deadline of when it should have happened, 2010 is when it should have happened, in 2012 they will be 33/35 and past prime, damage control might still save it but it will never be the same epic fight that it would have been in 2010, that ship has sailed.

Damn, good point. kind of sucks.

The longer it waits, the more likely it is that which ever fighter loses everybody will be sayin' it's because he's old.
