Alexis Arguello.

Arguello fought the best in every division he campaigned in, and successfully became a three weight world champion when belts actually meant something. The man had to fight and beat the likes of Ruben Olivares and Alfredo Escalera. He was never handed a world title by the WBC, unlike Morales, who was awarded titles for beating the likes of Pablo Cano and Guty Espadas Jr. Arguello never left a division without having defended his title on multiple occasions against credible opposition, and never lost a title in the ring.

Arguello and it's not even remotely close. Alexis is a top 30 P4P fighter of all time. I know everyone loves Morales here, and there's no problem with admiring someone as badass as Erik clearly is, but seriously, **** the general forum if they get this one wrong.

Make the case for Morales then. This isn't even close.

I agree

Feel as though arguello is the better fighter but morales imo certainly has the better single win.

How do you compare top 5 opponents of each fighter.

Arguello has a bunch of fighters that could make the case for getting into his top 5. Morales has two great wins (depending on how you scored the Barrera trilogy) and then a bunch of rather lackluster ones by comparison.

Arguello holds wins over: Ruben Olivares (albeit past his prime), Jose Luis Ramirez (albeit in a very controversial 10 round decision), Bobby Chacon, Rolando Navarette, Alfredo Escalera twice, Bazooka Limon, Cornelius Boza-Edwards, Ray Mancini, Jim Watt, Ruben Castillo, etc.

Morales holds wins over: Manny Pacquiao (many would argue that he was perhaps pre-prime), Marco Antonio Barrera (again, depending on how you scored the series), Paulie Ayala, In-Jin Chi, Junior Jones (past prime), Kevin Kelley (past prime), Daniel Zaragoza (well past prime), Wayne McCullough, Jesus Chavez, Carlos Hernandez, etc.

Make of that what you will. I think it's pretty clear if you're familiar with the fighters and the times of their careers they were defeated.

historically I don't think Morales can match Arguello. Alexis fought everyone and then added to his legacy by moving up and having one of the best fights ever after he had a great career. Something about Alexis was special beyond his boxing skills.

Outside of Manny Pacquiao and Marco Antonio Barrera, Morales doesn't really have a very impressive resume. You're talking about guys like In Jin Chi, Carlos Hernandez, Jesus Chavez, etc. It looks tame compared to these list of names.

Bobby Chacon, Ruben Castillo, Boza Edwards, Rolando Navarrete, Jose Luis Ramirez, Ray Mancini, Rafael Limon, Royal Kobayashi, etc.

Morales would have struggled to beat quite a few of those, in my opinion. Arguello beats everyone on Morales' win column, even a 130lbs Pacquiao.

Morales is great; one of the most entertaining and accomplished fighters of my lifetime. But Arguello is in a very special class of ATG's.
