wasnt it mant to be asthma pills or something like that which helped open up your lungs enabling you to breathe better and get that extra bit zoomph after a long fight.

Could have been anything knowing Lewis but I actually believe this to be correct. Getting an extra wind at the end of the fight when your opponent has already taken a lot of punishment and is tired themselves could very well lead to a 14th round like that one.

True, but the fact that he would even be familiar with something like that raises eyebrows IMO.

It was a prison drink. It gets you wired like a mother****er. 100% sure of it. It was very common with black prisoners specially.

The 'special' ingredient in the champagne was the chemical ammonia, and it had such a violent effect on the fighters that it could render even the most battered man concsious.

By way of illustrating ammonia's effects, my wife once took a job in a science lab. She unfortunatly sniffed the wrong jar- which had ammonia in it, and described the effect as though a red-hot knife had been pushed through up her nose and into her brain! I think she also described a very painful headache etc. She also says that she could feel its effects for a couple of weeks afterwards, so I don't doubt that it is pretty serious stuff.

I always beleived Pryor was administered some American variant of Australia's champange, something not legal but only designed to cut through the fog so to speak.
good post
