SRR is the easiest choice. The best choice for someone who doesn't want to think about it too much, or argue about it too much. SRR is arguably NOT the goat, contrary to (somewhat) popular belief, i.e., valid arguments can be made for other fighters...

...me, personally, would go with SRR for the aforementioned reasons.

Prime RJJ was a thing of beauty, but he benefited heavily off raw athleticism, which is why his career hasn't stood the test of time.

yup, he should have down 3 things...

1) get an atg trainer like steward, roach or mayweather sr. for his d. & b.-IQ

2) when he was prime fight anybody (benn, dariusz, X II, prime cal, mcclellan)

3) get a big promoter like arum or king to get more tv exposure

4) retire at the right time (fight holyfield maybe tyson after ruiz and over)

had he done all this and believe me he would have beat everybody (except maybe the top heavy's or juan carlos gomez, aside from them, nobody beats a prime rjj. he would be easily p4p top 5 by skills and accomplishmant. him, leonard, pacquiao and mayweather are without a doubt all top 15 p4p ever.

As for the second Frazier fight... He cheated in the second Frazier fight, holding behind the head throughout the entire match. If the ref allows it, go for it; but I can't consider it a huge accomplishment.

He has a few really good wins. He is one of the best heavyweights of all time, most certainly not THE best heavyweight. In no way shape or form should he be considered better than the real contenders for the top P4P spot...

The problem is people are emotionally attached to Ali, they are invested in his legend. And that is what it is, a myth. Most people have mingled fact and fantasy with Ali.

I hate to say it, but Ali is so ****ing overrated it hurts...

Before the Tyson hype a never saw even one Ali fight, but I had heard a lot about him of course. So I watched the complete "Ali's best fights" series (on Eurosport I believe) when my father told me about him being even better as Tyson.
Now that was a bitter dissapointment! Fights were mostly close and difficult, while he was spoiling all over the place and got some disgraceful gifts (Norton III like you mentioned with the crowd even starting a riot because of it).
Of course I understood the opponents were better as in Tyson's time and Ali didn't possess that kinda punching power, and he had lots of skills and an incredible chin (wich won a couple of fights for him) but he wasn't nearly as good as advertised.

Later I saw more fights (including the easier ones), and in those he showed his undeniable skills, but he didn't impress me quite as much as I expected.
Ali is overrated, no question.

Ali is overrated, no question.

problem is, young atheltic fast ali was great, but he was skinny when he was prime compared to full grown heavyweights like tyson, foreman or lewis.

so, ones he got bigger, he got slower, his condition wasnt 100 % etc.
sad that he wasnt born into this time, with all the regimes, new training methods and all the technical stuff, an athletic bulked ripped ali would have been great.

No other fighter comes close to pegging all of these key points like Ali, except those listed. Other fighters on the list only partially fulfilled the list.

When you speak of GOAT, it entails many different aspects of the sport, to include;

1) Talent
2) Ring generalship
3) Competition
4) Entertainment value
5) Adversity
6) BIG fights
7) Out Of The Ring persona
Record

Looking at each fighter and scoring based on the above, I have these fighters listed as the greatest;

1) Ali
2) Sugra Ray Robinson
3) Jack Johnson
4) Sugar ray Leonard
