Default Sam Soliman vs Eromesele Albert - Nov 18th

The winner of Soliman vs Albert to fight Adama for the right to challenge Geale for IBF title:

Soliman-Albert clash Nov 18

by Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing - 16th Oct 2011

IBF #6 middleweight Sam Soliman (39-11, 17 KOs) will clash with IBF #14 Eromosele Albert (24-5-1, 12 KOs) over twelve rounds in an IBF box-off to find the mandatory challenger for IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale.

The management of Albert and the manager of Soliman have reached an agreement to clash at The Melbourne Pavillion, Flemington, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on November 18.

Soliman’s manager David Stanley said, “We are very happy to have the fight in Melbourne but we also know Sam will be in for one of the toughest fights of his career. Albert proved he is one of the best middleweights in the world recently when he challenged Daniel Geale in Hobart, Tasmania and pressured the champion in all of the twelve rounds.

Sam has proven himself to be one of the most popular boxers in Australia with substantial TV ratings every time he steps into the ring in televised contests and I am sure there will be much interest in this fight.”

Soliman is very happy that Albert has taken the fight and he said, “I want to thank my manager David Stanley who has done a great job in finally securing Eromosele Albert to meet me in the IBF box-off on November 18 but also realize it will be one of the hardest and most important fights of my career.

There have been several middleweights who agreed to fight me in the IBF box-off but pulled out and that includes the former IBF champion Sebastian Sylvester and highly regarded Peter Quilen.”

IBF #4 Osumanu Adama defeated IBF #5 Roman Karmazin in the other IBF box-off and the winner of Soliman vs Albert will clash with Adama for the mandatory IBF 160 pound position.

CHB what are your thoughts on this? I am happy for Sam, but really imo this is not good for boxing. Say Alber wins, who really wants to see that again? And if Sam wins, will that be even more competetive? Do the public need to see Geale vs Soliman (especially after 3-0 vs Mundine?)

Either of them has to get past Adama before they can start thinking about fighting Geale. But I agree we don't want to see Geale vs Albert again.

As far as Sammy goes. You make your own luck, and if Soliman can beat Albert and then follow up by beating Adama, who's to say he hasn't then earned a crack at Geale?

It's really only a side show and the mandatory won't be fighting Geale for another 12 months or so.... Geale will most likely have 2 fights before then.

Geale last fought on August 31st, and if he's awaiting the winner of this little series as his next opponent, his next fight mightn't be til Jan/Feb 2012 earliest.

That would make for about 6 months between fights for Geale. So surely he will fit another fight or two in in the mean time?

Hope Albert doesn't win. Adama would be the best scenario IMO. Soliman wouldn't be too bad.

Agree. But I wonder who Geale will fight before that. Anyone heard anything?

I read Darren Barker's manager saying they have been offered a crack at Daniel Geale's IBF title in 2012. Could be some good fights on the horizon for Geale provided he can keep winning.

Adama really isn't very good. The Karmazin he beat was shot to bits; having that name on his record really flatters him.

The Soliman-Albert winner would honestly have a good shot against him, and he doesn't offer Geale any greater challenge than either of them.
