Default How big a factor should an amateur career play into a fighter's legacy/HOF credential

?

I was thinking this b/c Tarver would be a controversial HOF pick based on his pro career, but his amateur career was absolutely stellar.

Or how about Leon Spinks? He accomplished everything there was to do in the sport. Gold medal, undisputed heavyweight champion, defeated an all time great.

It should. Though amateur career does not have the same gravitas as professional accomplishments.

little bit, An olympic medal should be counted but apart from that i dont think they should be counted since the Amateur boxing is so different from Pro boxing

It should have no impact whatsoever.

This i true but it is the Boxing HoF not the Professional IBHoF.
But I agree it should be valued differently. But let us not discount it totally. I mean what is the difference between a pro that goes 80-0-0 vs local cab drivers with corrupt judge, promoters and refs vs a good amateur career?

I think it shouldn't be held for or against you unless it was a very impressive career. Olympic competition helps as well. The thing is though, barely anybody is ever going to get into the HOF on that alone, so it shouldn't count for much.
