Default Kid Gavilan - head-to-head monster?

Who'd beat Gavilan at 147lbs?

Not many. I think Armstrong could but wouldnŽt necessarily. Napoles has a good shot as have Griffith and Rodriguez. Leonard could do it too. IŽd bet on Hearns to beat him.

I think Ted Kid Lewis could do it.

If the question were who could rob Kid Gavilan at 147 lbs then the list would be a lot longer.

He had the speed. He had the strength up close. Lacking in finer points on the outside, but Gavilan couldn't hurt him and he'd get in.

Well, Britton had his number, and McFarland was a level above either man. I just don't see someone like Lewis being on the level of a Gavilan, nor having the style to gain any kind of upper hand (on the inside he'd be nullified and out-pointed, on the outside he'd be out-jabbed and out-boxed). I think he gets a bit overrated.
