The biggest fights in UFC history were Gracie's victories in UFC I. If he'd lost to a traditional striker, everybody would have continued taking karate classes and tuned out. We wouldn't have seen MMA competitions outside of Japan for years, if ever.

Everything else is just a footnote.

its huge for the sport

but the first events were bigger and how it survived

UFC is not going anywhere

but this fight is the beginning of what may be UFC crossing over and hitting huge status and coverage and gain more fans

Not really.

But I don't know what people were expecting, it was always going to be a round 1 knockout.

Still pretty shocked about Cain though.

Cain started of with a couple of legkicks and i thought **** if those continue then JDS is gonna lose pretty big but then 1 punch from JDS changes everything

Im not really talking about the details of the fight guys, mainly about the event as a whole

Will it bring new fans to MMA

Will it keep them interested

Do you know anyone who tuned in for the 1st time, and did they like what they saw

That kinda stuff

Yeah seems to be that way. I was out in the pub and people were talking about Pac v JMM all night. I dont think UFC on Fox is as important to the UK market as it is in the States, but it hardly raised awareness over here at all considering the hype around this match

EDIT I just remembered I made a very drunken bet that Pac wouldnt kod JMM, better than my recent prediction league scores anyway

Bad night for Dana IMO.
To put everything on 1 single fight for a 1 hours bracket was just ****in stupid.

Like everyone said I think, they should have aired the Guida VS Bhendo fight, and after the JDS Vs Cain fight....

That way new comer in MMA would have seen a really nice technical fight, and after that a KO...

But this isn't what happened, so like I said earlier in this thread, the fight no, the TV deal maybe, but after some thought I would say no !

We don't know how many people watched the fight yet. The only figure we have is the estimated average for the average viewership during the broadcast. And that was higher than MMA production on American television. But yes the UFC is not as big in the mainstream culture as Pride was back in the day.
