Default Lennox Lewis v Jack Johnson

Double L versus double J ?????

For purposes of balance, I thought I would make this thread.

Lennox 6' 5" 245lbs. Jack 6' 1/4" 208lbs.
I think this is a terrible matchup for Johnson, He would be conceding size, power, reach, and weight.

Jack liked to counter, waiting to catch you coming in,Lewis can win this without getting into a maul ,simply by boxing from outside.

Johnson would slip a lot of those jabs and catch them on his gloves , but would he be able to land with his own shots?

If Lewis elected to go inside I thnk he must be the master ,whatever Johnson's strength is estimated to have been I cannot see him out muscling Lewis.

Johnson liked a leisurely pace, Lewis too, usually, I just do not envisage
Johnson landing enough effective punches on the big man.

Fundamental to Johnsons failure imo, would be the fact that Lewis is nearly 5 inches taller ,thus Johnson's most potent weapon, his uppercut would be considerably negated.

I''ve no doubt Johnson would have his moments of smothering Lewis's punches, and possibly make the big man look rather raw and clumsy at times.
He would also have his success with the jab as others with worse jabs did with Lennox.

I just don't see Johnson getting home with enough meaningful punches to take a decision ,and he sure isn't koing Lewis. Jack probably has the ring smarts to survive till the final bell but he would know he had lost before the ref held up the Brit's hand.imo.

What say you?
P.S I rate Johnson considerably higher in the ATG list , he just doesn't get any of my money in this fight.

Entertainment wise, it would probably be a snoozer.

I expect there to be a lot of clinches. While Johnson is an expert in these, he is at a sizeable strength disadvantage. I'd go for Lewis without much doubt.

I also believe Lewis wins, but not because he would impose himself physically and manhandle Johnson like some seem to believe.

Now, that's what I am talking about.

Working on my next thread now. A couple more cups of coffee and a cigarette and I should be ready.

I kicked the smoking habit a few years ago, but still drink a lot of coffee.

In answer to your facetious response.

My thread has the advantage of film footage and multiple reports of their fights. So a comparison can be drawn ,and an opinion arrived at.

I am lucky enough to own several rare and valued old time boxing books including Bells Book of Boxing ,so I have quite a bit of info on the likes of Figg, but the majority of fans would have no line of form to factor a comparison or even an idea of the physical size of Figg.

But you go ahead ,take the piss, its sure easier than contributing to threads with any meaningful input isnt it?

Can't really see how Johnson wins this one. As UK Mcvey says, Jack would be outgunned in almost every department.

Also, boxing was too different back then. It was still a transitional style to gloved boxing - and back then, Johnson was way ahead of his time. But still behind Lewis' time. Lewis TKO9.

I also don't see why Johnson would rank higher. His title reign was shit, he avoided the best challengers of his era (not including when they were still green) and like Lewis, lost a few times.

that was a fecal entendre. don't dig the cigs.

so as I don't lose McVey's deepest respect, i will participate more sincerely in this discussion.

Lennox Lewis by stoppage around 10. I don't think Johnson will be able out-physical him. I don't think Johnson has the pop, nor the opportunity against the best version of Lewis, to catch lighting in a bottle and stop him. However, I don't think Lewis sparks this kind of fighter early a'la Ruddock or wears him down quickly a'la Morrison. I think Johnson would be a puzzle that would take Lewis time figure out and even inspire some trepidation in him. But ultimately, the guy with the immense physical advantages and more tools wins this.
