i think bernard could be getting itchy feet last night watching that

if munroe wins his world title which is unlikley imo he could be thinking of one big last night in the o2

i thought munroe was much better last night then he has been but is still quite limited , dunne would outbox him and wouldnt be caught on the ropes like terrasaz was

Paddy - you should look at it too with a fresh perspective. Remember you telling us that Poonsawat's power is over rated and Dunne will beat him with a wide UD ..........

In all seriousness though, and bearing in mind this is a bit of a taboo subject for a few, I wouldnt just dismiss Munroe out of hand. He would have a great chance against Bernard, if he performed like he did last night. He was shite in his previous outing. The thing that impressed me most about Munroe last night was his toughness, similarly to that relentless toughness that Simpson has. That is why I dont see Poonswat walking Munroe down in a few rounds, and he handled Martinez pretty well - those are two further reasons - for giving him some credence against a fight with Dunne.

I dont see him beating the Japanese kid but he deserves his shot.
Brendan I am really surprised by this you should know that styles make fights.

Just because Munroe beat Martinez doesnt mean he would beat Dunne.

Yes Dunne had a dodgey chin but Munroe definately is not a power puncher.

Consider this, the mexican was beating him Handily for the first 4 rounds, you credit munroe coming back into the fight to his "relentlessness" I would credit it to the fact that the lad had a long flight from mexico to spain then had to drive to London from Spain not exactly ideal preperation is it?

He looked like he had blown his load in 4 rounds and thats when munroe started coming back.

Its not taboo its just down right ridiculas. Nishioka will have an easy mandatory for himself.

Dunne was capable of beating him to a wide ud but had a dodgey chin...

Lets not forget that Dunne was winning the first 2 rounds til hes chin gave out.

Poonsawat was having a look at Dunne the first two sessions and took some of Dunne's best shots and then decided he had nothing to fear and blew him out of there. No shame to losing to Poonsawat - he is a formidable opponent. Hawkins, Peters et all all said the same thing after the fight.

So you are saying Dunne wasnt capable of outboxing Poonsawat?

I know what I think happened and if I was Peters I would have said that same as him.

Munroe is a 12 round fighter, he starts slow and hardly did a thing for the first 4 sessions. Once he turned up the heat, he impressively dismantled Terrazas. Sure the travelling was far from ideal - but I wouldnt take it away from Munroe - he was very impressive. The wee bollocks surprised me - I had him for a UD win.

The Martinez example was part of a several reasons (not the a simplistic cause-effect rationale) why I suggested Munroe could get Dunne problems.

Last point on this. I could understand the arguments for a Dunne victory and they are valid indeed, nobody knows for sure unless they settled it in the ring. But, to say that it is ridiculous that Munroe 'might' beat Dunne comes off very biased opinion. Anyhow, just my opinion.

There was no difference in Munroe from last night to his fight before, the difference was the opponent. Maludrottu understands what he's doing with his footwork and is able to spin off the ropes when he's backed up to them, the Mexican did not. Like Maludrottu Dunne would be able to get off the ropes when he's on them and due to his footspeed Bernard wouldn't be trapped on the ropes nearly as much as most Munroe opponents(even less than Maludrottu). Munroe would be picked off coming in, eating left hooks and straight rights.

I've never picked a Munroe fight incorrectly, I predicted him to lose to Morris, to beat Martinez(both times), beat Maludrottu, beat Terrazas and all of the other scrubs in between. But he would not have beaten Dunne because he wouldn't have been able to pin Bernard to the ropes for long periods and in the middle of the ring the difference between them is night and day. The Nishioka fight should make you come to your senses, the Japanese fighter has got decent footwork and a good brain on him, he won't be bullied like most of Munroe's opponents.

Would you just listen to yourself! And how do you 'know' what would have went down between Dunne and Munroe - nobody knows. FFS get off your pedestal.

And how would the Japanese fight make me come to my 'senses' - I already said I think he would beat Munroe. As I said - a taboo subject.

Due to the fact you may be able to relate another poor Munroe performance to not being able to get close to his opponent and managing to link that to his opponents superior footwork(which Dunne would also have over Munroe).

Listen I'm not making Bernard out to be some kind of miraculous unbeatable fighter, I'd even give this 15-8-4 journeyman [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] a decent shot at beating Dunne.

But you really need to look at the reasons Munroe 'performed poorly' vs Maludrottu. It was because of what the Italian was doing, and Bernard has similar strengths to Maludrottu against he does the things Maludrottu does well even better and he's even more elusive.

You could say nobody knows how Munroe vs Dunne would of gone, but you could also say nobody knows how Dunne vs Morales at Super-Bantamweight would of gone(I do btw, Dunne gets annihilated early).

I'm guessing you believe Munroe would be able to pin Dunne to the ropes for prolonged periods of a fight between them if you give him a good chance of winning ?

There he is in Black and White The WARRIOR Waldron the man in Sight,
Punch for Punch he is the Best, To take the BELT he’ll beat the rest,
The 15th of May is the one, In Jamie Powers town the job will be done,
10 Rounds of punishment on Power’s head maybe he should have stayed home instead.
Round after Round he picks up the pace , Power under pressure you can se it in his face,
There’s no place to hide it’s a small ring, he sits in the corner dreading the Ding Ding
As he comes out red as a berry Waldron puts him down for one of many,
The Ref starts to count he gets to his feet he thinks he standing but really asleep,
WALDRON’s the champ we never had a doubt, Get some sleep Power you lights are knocked OUT LOL!!!!!!!!

Oh dear I see this Dunne/Munroe thing has kicked off again. It will just never end. Hopefully if Munroe is around for a couple of years none other than Paulie, the Jackal or even Mr Casey may be raiding those shores to spice up the local banter with the neihbours accross the sea. I haven't had a bet since the AA - Direll fight, which cost me a fair bit but when I heard about the mexican's long trip during the week I went for a munroe victory. I got 1.4 odds. As for Dunne ,I hope he is enjoying his retirement and stays retired. There was something classy about the timing of his decision because you know he could have laced up a few more fights but he was leaving the game while still at the top end of the game and gave everything he could. He will not be one of those tragic stories you end up reading about the guy is too smart and savy. I like his analiys on RTE I think he has a future with them.
