Paul Appleby could be set for a crack at the European featherweight title as he bids to bounce back from the loss of his British crown.
The 21-year-old South Queensferry boxer suffered the first defeat of his 15-fight professional career last month when he was knocked out by Martin Lindsay in Belfast.
Promoter Tommy Gilmour is now hoping to bring European champion Oleg Yefimovych, 27, to Glasgow in September in an attempt to get Appleby's career back on track.
"Paul Appleby could be given the opportunity to be the mandatory contender for the European championship," Gilmour told PA Sport.
"It's out to purse offers by June 30 and Matchroom Boxing is going to bid to try to put it on in September."
Yefimovych (16-1) has only once fought outside his native Ukraine, and that yielded his sole defeat, but Gilmour is hopeful of luring him to Scotland.
He said: "Nearly all his fights have taken place in the Ukraine - he's very popular - but we're going to be bidding for it at the Kelvin Hall.
"So hopefully we'll outbid them."
Even a fight in the Ukraine would hold no fears for Gilmour, who branded the atmosphere at Belfast's Ulster Hall for the Lindsay fight as the most hostile he had ever experienced.
"It was a very hostile and hot environment, the worst I've ever seen," he said.
"If it ends up in the Ukraine, there's nothing the Ukrainians can do that we didn't experience in Belfast."
Asked what Appleby's response was to today's news, Gilmour said: "I've sent him a text - he's absolutely delighted."
