Default Video of my First Masters Amateur Bout Age 35-45

I'll take any and all comments! I'm in the all white with red headgear. Yes, I have a low left hand and need to work on getting it up. In the early rounds, I also drop my head too much. Missed some real opportunities to land hooks to his head when he was flailing away at my body. I nearly knocked him down in the 3rd, but he held the rest of the round after I landed some good shots.

It was a Charity Event in Atlanta, GA. The 1984 Olympic Team was in attendance. Got to meet Breland, Holyfield, Sweet Pea Whitaker, Meldrick Taylor, Biggs etc.. Pretty amazing event and I'm proud I got to be a part of it.

I'm 35, we fought at 185-195 Lbs.

LOL, good one. That guy messed up big too. Masters have to wear 16 oz gloves per USA Boxing. My opponent alledgedly stepped in the ring with 12's. The ref made me switch out of my 16's for 12's. Made me do it in the ring, totally threw my concentration off. My opponent should have switched out of the 12's and put on 16's. There were plenty of 16's floating around.

Sh!t happens I guess.

It makes sense to make you break the competition rules as well instead of making the other guy abide by them.

Ref done ****ed up....

Take my advice with a grain of salt, as I haven't even started boxing yet, but it looks like you weren't confident at all in yourself until you rocked him at the 7:40 minute mark on the video. When you started boxing more aggressive, you boxed better. If you'd been that aggressive the whole fight, you would've won every round, in my opinion.

Also, after that 7:40 mark, he started clinching a lot, and it looked like his clinches weren't exactly strong. A "trick" my brother used to do is tire them out, then when they clinch, push them off very hard and immediately throw a 1-2, then a hook to their liver. I don't have experience yet, so I haven't done it, but my brother used to be a really good boxer, and that combination right there scored him almost all of his knockdowns.

I was nervous to say the least. The whole glove exchange ****ed with my head, but no excuses. I should have thrown many more punches. I was always looking for the big straight right to knock him on his ass with. His punches never once hurt me. It got to a point where I realized he was wearing himself out. So I let him. 3rd round I came out with a great deal of urgency and confidence. Wish I had done that from the start and I would have ended that fight.

Congrats on your first fight!

I'm hoping to get a Masters fight or two in eventually myself, but I'm way out of shape at the moment.

As for your fight, I think the best thing you did was not get rattled. You looked calm even though he was pressuring you. That's important, so good job on that.

I didn't see him land anything huge, so good job on that too.

Some things you might have done.

Maybe try an uppercut when he's in there winging body shots with his head down? I didn't see one, but you may have done that. Did you find it effective?

With the low left hand, you have to put more of a snap on it to get his attention with it. Sometimes it looked pawing instead of like a cobra lashing out to tear his ****ing face off.

Maybe some left hand feints followed by that straight right to the body your corner was asking for, then circle away and 1+2?

Hell, I don't know. Just some thoughts.

Again, congrats for having the balls to do it and putting on a good fight!

The "straight right hand to the body" was actually my opponents corner. They seemed to be yelling that the whole fight. In fact I was trying to bait him into it so I could land an overhand right to his head LOL. He never threw it though.

My corner was yelling at me to keep throwing the jab, which I agree, needed to happen a LOT more. Thanks for the props Slacker and get moving on your first fight. When its all over, you will be very proud of yourself. Funny thing is, after the fight, I had so much adrenalline I could have easily gone 3 more rounds. If it were a 4 round fight, I would have knocked him out. I challenged him to a rematch in Atlanta Corporate Fight Night 4 in the spring of 2012. I'm hoping to fight again prior that though.

I sort of zoned out but enjoyed watching you fight, calm and good instincts also his lack of will/fitneess won the fight easy. the other guy didn't press the fight much later on but he came out swinging at the start so good composure by you. i say tuck your chin more, hands up, press the action more especially if he looks weak as he did. Some nice jabs, couple body shots. Good fight.

Thanks a lot! I started this in September of 2010 with the mission of landing my first Masters fight in 2011. I accomplished my goal, and now I'm looking to have at least 2 fights in 2012.

Yep Pretty sure most of us do that, its alot easier to watch though. At the end charity event just for fun and good entertainment anyway.

Ana lost this fight. Villalobos definately had more effective clean punches landed and lots of hard body shots. How can Ana win when all she did was jab and clinch? The crowd booed when they announced Ana the winner and rightfully so because all she did was jab the entire fight. Villalobos pretty much beat her up upstairs and downstairs as evident to her huge black eye and beat up face. Ana didnt even know how to clinch right. Like Freddie Roach said, Ana still has a lot to work on and that is a huge understatement.
