but at 160. Oscar and Trinidad went up for Hopkins, no catchweight, there against really a light heavyweight. Sergio is not that big either.
Oscar Hop was at horrible catch weight of 156

yes no one says they are the best p4p etc

and guys like strum have been around middleweight a long time
and fought many guys who were top 10 before, like 2008 etc

and pirog is super young.

but lets just listen how to jim lampley says about any weight class
and take it as truth.....

and it ofcourse it must be true non hbo guys are just belt holders
and hbo guys are the REAL CHAMPIONS

Geez you're dense. Look at the link I posted; Martinez by the end of 2010 had fought two of the top three rated middleweights in the sport, including the legitimate lineal champion, according to your own criterion. HBO did not "make up" the clear lineage that extends from when Hopkins unified the division to Martinez today (the man that beat the man that beat the man). The only reason Williams and Pavlik are no longer rated in the division is because they moved out of it and/or had been inactive. That doesn't change the fact that they were ahead of abolutely everyone on today's list at the time Martinez fought them.

Dzinziruk was a junior middleweight, but he was also probably better than at least 75% of those currently ranked at middleweight. Everyone agreed he was a much better opponent than Zbik, who Martinez wanted to fight, even though the latter is still ranked at 160 and the former is not.

by the way any champion who is an hbo boy
is a "belt holder"
and their guy is always the champion

beat line
the top middleweights

pirog
strum
macklin
etc etc

not one of the top 6-7 guys in the divison
has been fought by martinez

he has beaten mainly jr. middleweights
and darren baker

who is good but the is the 3rd best middleweight
in england
behind macklin and super G
At the time he fought them - Williams, Cintron, Pavlik SHIT on all the fighters you listed above. Hell Dzinkziruk is probably better, or at least more proven anyway.

I like Pirog, but he's still green and needs more exposure on American TV. Same goes for Macklin (who will face Martinez soon enough). Sturm is just another protected German. He's skilled, but he only fights in his backyard and isn't a name in the states either.

Why aren't those "belt holders" facing each other to unify things and EARN a shot at the top man? Why aren't they calling Martinez out? Why aren't they willing to come over to the USA to fight him?

Exactly.

Martinez has only fought two middleweights in his career, and only one of them was a world class fighter. Very few people knew about Pavlik's circumstances before the Martinez fight. If we stop and consider the fact that Pavlik spent a large portion of his eight week training camp trying to sober up at The Betty Ford Center, the facts should make a person re-think what happened.

Ultimately Martinez faced an under-prepared, overweight, and burned out Pavlik. I've seen all of Pavlik's fights dating back to his pro debut. Martinez faced the worst version of KP I've ever seen. Even under those circumstances Sergio still lost 4 or 5 rounds, and got banged around quite a bit.

If Sergio Martinez really wants to accomplish the things he says he does, he needs to forget 160. He clearly does not want to fight any more middleweights. He should get back down to 154, and get busy. Of course, it is possible that he can no longer make the weight. If that is the case he needs to either retire or fight the top guys at 160.

I agree that Martinez-Pavlik had a lot of "grey area" to it and that was an even fight going into the championship rounds, but Kelly F'ed up any possibility of a rematch (which he could've won). Even if Kelly mounts a comeback now, he can't make 160 so forget about it...

Regarding the MW division, here's the top ten (in no particular order): Macklin, Sturm, Pirog, Geale, Lee, Chavez, Proksa, Sylvester and Zbik. Just who out of that crop has done enough to earn a shot at the champ on HBO and has the clout/name to make it worth everybody's while? Maravilla wants to make some money and he's earned that right (over 50 pro fights and some big names on his resume) so I can't blame him for trying to hold out and get a big money fight.

Pirog needs more than a win over Danny Jacobs to get a shot. And nobody else on that list is exactly banging on Sergio's door demanding a fight. We all know Bob Arum won't serve up Chavez so don't even think about that one either.

Due to his promotoinal ties we'll see him face Macklin in 2012 so that's him against probably the top MW challenger. We'll probably see him face Lee as well and he's a top ten. So that's better than nothing.

Because they think he has 'star quality' and they're hyping him for fights with midgets. They don't want to see him in with anyone his own size, they know his situation is fragile.

So sad being stuck with a joke like ***io after so many years of Nard.
