Default Is there a Gerald Mcclellan type figure in MMA?

Just out of curiosity, has such damage ever been done in Mixed Martial Arts?

Why choose Gerald Mcclellan and not one of the hundreds of deaths that have taken place?

There have been two deaths as a result of a sanctioned MMA bout.

I don't know of any cases like Mcclellans occurring in MMA, or at the very least none have been widely publicised.

I chose Mcclellan because of the documentary I watched a few hours ago, so his case was clear in my mind, to watch him it could be argued that death would of been kinder.

Death was bound to of happened before in MMA and Boxing due to the combatic nature of the sports. I'd just never heard of an MMA fighter becoming disabled due to a beating he recived.

I think the worst I've heard about was Igor Zinoviev, his neck was injured after a massive slam from Frank Shamrock, he never fought again, but I don't think he was 'disabled' as such.

Thanks, All forms of fighters deserve respect in terms of the risks they take.

I heard somebody died before or seriously injured but it was a small mma company. I can't remember which one it was but as far as the big companies like UFC-Pride- Strikeforce-WEC etc, none that i heard of.

I searched Gerald McClellan on youtube after watching the documentary the other day. And found a video called:

1. Douglas Dedge vs Yevgeni Zolotarev (Dead)
2. Deuk-Koo Kim vs Ray Mancini(Dead)
3. Hidekazu Akai vs Masaharu Owada(Cerebral contusion)
4. Igor Zinoviev vs Frank Shamrock(Retirement)
5. Gerald McClellan vs Nigel Benn(Cerebral contusion)
6. Leonardo Castello Branco vs Andrei Kopylov(Leg Break)
7. Chou Hi vs Daichi Sakota(Dead)

I will not post the video..

Well, it really took me about 5 seconds to guess what he meant, it should have been immediate. Anyway, it's mostly for him to learn.
