there is no mexican american style of boxing, there are mexican american brawlers, boxers, and boxer punchers. there's no specific style for mexican americans, whereas the mexican style of boxing usually entails a "take some to give some" sort of attitude

The difference is social...Mexican americans tend to be more polished boxers...mexicans tend to be brawlers because they turned pro at an early age and tend to fight to survive.

The shit is overblown anyway.

The stereotypical "Mexican style" is to come forward and take 1 (or 2 or 3 or whatever) to give 1. Well to reach a level like a Chavez, Barrera, Morales, etc...you have to have skills and some defense. You can't just eat shots all the time and get by on toughness. Chavez slipped shots well and rolled with them effectively. He didn't always come forward, he could be effective while boxing on the backfoot, as Rocky Lockridge found out.

Mexican fighters like Julio Cesar Chavez lack versatility, defense, and don't have access to world-class athletic training. Mexican-American fighters like Juan Diaz and Chris Arreola are incredibly well-rounded, defensively savvy, and sculpted thanks to having access to nutritionists and trainers.

I teach a lot of angles, lateral movement and reactionary punching. I only have a few boxers who do not seem to learn and use what I teach.
