Super-middleweight legend Joe Calzaghe has continued his long-running war of words with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] by claiming he would have taken care of Andre Ward with ease.
Froch lost his WBC title to Ward in the final of the Super Six tournament earlier this month, suffering a unanimous points defeat in Atlantic City. Afterwards Froch admitted that the Olympic gold medallist had been far too good for him on the night.
The Brit's loose defence was ruthlessly exposed by Ward, who regularly took advantage of his opponent's low hands to sting him with a series of hooks.
But despite that defeat, Froch is still expected to [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] in his next bout - and, when last questioned on the subject, he was not giving up hope of coaxing Calzaghe out of retirement for a 2012 clash. Calzaghe hung up his gloves undefeated in 2009, having beaten Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jnr in his final two fights.
However, as was the case when he was active, Calzaghe continues to show no interest in facing Froch - although he could not resist a subtle swipe when discussing Ward."I think the way Ward fights would have suited me to be honest. I would have had too much speed and power for him. So, yes, I would have beaten him, but congratulations to him and his team. I hope he goes on to have a great career," Calzaghe said to hattonboxing.com.

What a BS pumped up article, if you can even call it that.

He said what he thought he'd do to Ward but he hardly takes a swipe at Froch.

Why doesn't he come out of retirement and fight Andre, if not he should shut the **** up plain and simple.

No good saying you would have done this or that when he still has the ability to actually do.

Edit: saying that joe is probably about 39 now but that isn't the point.

With such power, Joe might well have scored one of his 'special stoppages' against Ward.

Calzaghe was special. Ward could be but if Calzaghe of 2005-2008 was innthe Super 6 you,d have to strongly back him. There,s no point in Carl or anyone else calling him out now though. He'd be a shot fighter. I think even Joe knew that after the Jones Jr fight.

Calzaghe is a what-if P4P number 1 of all time. He had his chance to prove his greatness, but he stayed at home for far too long. A couple of more big wins (Bute, Dawson etc.) and Ward would already be ahead of Calzaghe.

Calzaghe would've decisioned Ward, imo. But what did people expect him to say? It was hardly outlandish or controversial comments. Move on.

Getting knocked down by old men who were several years past their best instead of fighting guys which would have cemented his legacy......

Calzaghe is on of the 'what ifs....' in my opinion.

Calzaghe only narrowly beat Kessler, Ward dominated him. Froch narrowly lost to him.

That is the best indication that we have of how these three stack up head-to-head. As for resumes, Ward's already surpasses Calzaghe's.

I see Calzaghe as a bit of an over-achiever if anything. He ended up with a pretty good resume, and the best names: Kessler, Hopkins and Eubank, are all guys that he was clearly at the limit of his talents in beating (albeit I scored the Hopkins fight for Hopkins, on the basis that I don't give credit for blocked or ineffective punches). If he had been able to fight Andre Ward, or if he had fought a prime Jones Jr, I'm confident that he would have lost; as it is, he carries the prestige of an "0" and therefore his fans maintain strange beliefs about him being an underachiever.

Edit: Of course Ward's resume doesn't actually surpass Zaggy's yet. I meant to say that Ward's resume is already not too far behind Zaggy's, and he has plenty of years left in the tank - so Ward wins in a comparison of resumes as it stands.

Oooh look, Mike464 climbs out of the woodwork when there's a Calzaghe thread. What a surprise.

Ward was a nobody when Calzaghe was around FFS . And yes, he most likely would have beaten him.

Regarding the article, he isn't slagging Froch at all.
