The Gist
* Anyone can put down a little bit on how you think the fight will play out. It will also go into the featured fight video * PinoyProdigy Trout hasn't faced anyone as good as Cotto. Cotto's experience, in my opinion, will be the key to the fight. But expect Trout to adjust, he's a smart fighter, but I don't think his adjustments will be enough IntentionalButt Cotto hasn't seen a lot of southpaws, but he's done well against them when he has. Let's throw away Pacquiao, whom Trout doesn't resemble in the least bit stylistically. Judah, Quintana, and Chop-Chop are all vaguely close (at least relative to Pacquiao) to looks he'll get from Trout. I think Trout has entered his prime but still isn't on par with a 2007 Judah. Hell, I'm not sure he's better than an unbeaten Quintana or that version of Corley. In all of Trout's best performances, he's been able to frustrate and annoy slower opponents with his right jab. Guys like D-Rod, Destroyer, and Rigo lack the dimensionality to do anything but plod into it repeatedly and perhaps become hesitant as a result (and wary of the infrequent but very fast left cross). I see Cotto being able to bob and weave through it, and not be deterred if he eats a couple so long as the end result is him getting to rip a few left hooks to Trout's body. Trout is a legit super welter, and fairly strong, but I don't see him keeping Cotto at bay all night. (and certainly not walking him down) Cotto on the frontfoot, slipping or ignoring the southpaw jab, has a great chance of felling some timber - or at the very least scaring the daylights out of Trout and forcing him into a pattern too negative to merit awarding points. Bulletproof I like Trout in what I consider a slight upset. Trout is better than people think. Cotto is a lot more shot than people think. Don't let the Mayweather fight, in which Floyd fought Cotto instead of picking him apart like we all expected to fool you. No disrespect to Cotto, but his time is about over. Ricky369 I am not worried about Trout boxing skills. Cotto has faced way better boxers than Trout. And Trout has never face a boxer like Cotto. I worried about Trout's size. I have always believe Cotto does't belong at 154lbs. Cotto should have stayed at 147. Trout showed at weight in that 160 are in his future. This reminds me of Tito vs. Hopkins. I know Trout isn't Bernard. But he is also young and hungry. The only reason I am backing Cotto on this one is because he is from my beloved island |

Cotto vs Trout - Pre Fight Quotes
Cotto “Trout has been a World Champion and he deserves his recognition. I know why I accepted this challenge" “Training in Big Bear was great and we accomplished all the goals that [trainer] Pedro [Diaz] had for us. Everything so far is going just as he planned. I’m feeling great. “Pedro has been a great addition to my career and for our team. Everyone saw the results with my fights against (Antonio) Margarito and (Floyd) Mayweather. Now, we’ll see how I perform against Trout. “Trout is not the only undefeated fighter that I have faced. He is not the first champion either. With that in mind, I will climb into the ring to win.” "I am really excited to come back to my second home. Fighting at The Garden is always special for me and a true pleasure. There is something unique in the atmosphere and it means a lot to me every time I fight there because the energy of the fans gives me extra motivation. Austin Trout will be a challenge for me, but I will win my fifth world championship on December 1." ---- Everybody who knows Miguel Cotto knows that I don’t pick easy fights. He was the next in line and I’m ready for him. We’re going to see what happens on Saturday. He’s fought in Panama and in Mexico but next Saturday he’s going to be in New York with me at Madison Square Garden. It’s my home and there is nothing is going to be equal to that. Madison Square Garden is a special venue and he’ll figure that out when he gets in there. Trout "Miguel Cotto needs no introduction. He's a true champion and one of the best fighters of the last 10 years, but I'm the present and future of the sport and this is just the showcase I need to prove to the world that I'm one of the best, pound-for-pound. I can't wait to fight in such a legendary place like Madison Square Garden; it's every fighter's dream." "I am a lot bigger, physically, than him. That was the first time I had been right next to him. I knew pretty much about his dimensions. But seeing it up close, it was funny. But it was cool. We kind of looked at him and we agreed that if we need to, we can definitely push this little dude around." ... "He looked me right in the eyes, and a lot of people don't do that for as long as we were in the stare down. I didn't expect fear. But I thought that it was funny that he really had to look up a lot to do the stare down. I'm 5-foot-10, and I would say that he's about 5-8 or 5-7." ----- There are 2 sides of Austin Trout: Austin Trout the fan and Austin Trout the fighter. I love to watch him fight but in the back of my mind I think that I can beat him. When I’m daydreaming about beating up somebody in front of a large crowd its one of those guys that I’m a fan of and he happens to be one of them. My past experiences have not been on this level but practice makes perfect. The crowd can only do one thing and that’s make noise. It doesn’t help him punch harder or move faster. |

In this fight Cotto is fighting a guy who is a natural light middle, and with many thinking Cotto is slightly past his best, the mix could make for an interesting fight. However, while undefeated, Trout is rather inexperienced on this level of the sport, and many question whether his skills are good enough to make the size difference in this fight matter. Will Cottos skill and experience shine through, or will Trout show its his time by taking the win in the biggest fight of his career. |

Austin Trout "Miguel Cotto is a great champion. He's a great fighter and it was an honor to be in the same ring as him. It's even more of an honor to be the man to beat him. To have my hand raised against a kingpin like Miguel Cotto is a dream come true." "Those shots that Cotto hit me with were strong and I knew he'd be strong, but it reconfirmed that take those shots. It was definitely the hardest fight of my career and when you fight someone as big as Miguel Cotto, it motivated me." "Give me Canelo - it's time to unify this division. There are a lot of good fighters out there and I want to be the best." Miguel Cotto "I'm satisfied with the job I did tonight. I'll go back to Puerto Rico and think. He came at me with both hands and it was a great fight. He fought until the end. I'm really thankful for all of my fans who were here to support me tonight. There's nothing like fighting at Madison Square Garden." TROUT vs COTTO : AFTERTHOUGHTS
* For anyone who feels like it, give some of your thoughts/voice your thoughts on the fight, and whatever you want to touch on as to your afterthoughts on Trout vs Cotto. Will be put into the Featured Fight Recap Video. * Kirk I felt it was a good fight, one in which was closer then the cards read, but in the end I think the right man got the W in a close, competetive fight. Cotto had his moments, and I think given his stature n age, did well against a larger, prime opponent like Trout. In the end it was the case of Cotto fading down the stretch, and Trout regrouping from some tough earlier rounds to impose himself on the fight and take the W. Not sure where Cotto goes from here, Ive said since the Clottey fight that hes lost some form, and while hes far from shot, hes also far from his best, and Im not sure how he stacks up against most of the natural Jr Middles. As for Trout, for this fight at least, his cinderella story has come true and I hope this opens doors for him. Trout vs Canelo is not a bad fight, bring it on next. Last but not least, much respect to Cotto for taking on a guy like Trout when he doesnt have many fights left in the sport and could have gone for a money grab against Pac again. Its not often a fighter who chooses who he wants to fight, whos a star, and nearing the end of his career, takes on a risky fight like this against someone who isnt a name. With a Canelo fight on the horizon, he could have had a simple tune up and went into another blockbuster fight. Instead he gave an undefeated primed champion a shot at the bigtime. Much respect to Cotto. Last edited by kirk; 12-02-2012 at 05:58 AM. |

I'll do the rankings to today when I got a little more time on my hands. It would be cool if you attach the WBK rules at the bottom of ..... basically whatever post is related to it, so the guys interested , involved or wanting to be involved in it would know it works.
