Anyone cavalierly stating that Louis would smash Byrd with ease is thinking with their heart, not their head. If Conn could come into the ring as a light heavy and almost pull it off before foolishly engaging and getting obliterated, then the idea that Byrd might, on his best night, just possibly have a shot at winning isn't some ridiculous notion.
Styles make fights, and this is a prime example of a styles matchup that would give a lesser-ranked fighter a legit shot at upsetting a top ATG. There have been plenty of heavyweights who were better fighters than Chris Byrd but who would nonetheless have much worse chances against Louis. This isn't some "Tua would smash Ali!" head-shaking mismatch tardfest. Again, not saying Byrd should be favored, but he's not hopeless in this matchup either. A path to victory exists, however fraught with danger it may be. |

Again, styles. Louis in all likelihood punches Ike's fucking brains out in short order, but he doesn't fight the same way as Ike, and will probably have a harder time with Byrd. It's not Dragonball Z, everyone doesn't have a "power level" you can compare for quick reference.
Maybe Louis blows Byrd out. Maybe Louis gets him out late. Or maybe, just maybe mind you, Byrd spoils his way to a UD. It's a analogous to... I dunno... Tua/Patterson. (Though obviously much different stylistically.) Sure we all know who rates higher. Sure maybe Patterson makes him look like an idiot for 15 rounds. But one can envision a scenario in which the lesser-regarded fighter just maybe pulls off the win. |

Byrd is a good boxer, but I think him fighting Louis would look very much like the Ibeabuchi bout. Louis just comes forward, throwing bombs, knowing Byrd doesn't have much to keep him off - and sooner or later, Joe catches him with something big.

Byrd is under rated.
The way that Vitally Klitschko has gone through the contendere, puts Byrds win over him in a new light. Perhaps Byrds best win for his resume, was his loss at 175lbs! It ended any doubt about what he was up against. Picking him over Louis is a stretch tough. Louis beat Conn, Walcott, Pastor, Ramage. If some of them made him lok bad, they all lost in the end. |

Byrd's defense and black slickness would allow him to survive 10 or 11 rounds but Louis is landing a clean blow eventually and that'll be the end.

Ibeabuchi hunted Byrd down and found him using the same combination over and over again. As good as Byrd was, Louis would only have to find one or two good punches before his finishing ability could take over.
