The same Cooney camp members who were stirring up the race card?

Again, give me a direct quote.

Prince William openly supports Aston Villa...

Princess Anne is the President of Scottish Rugby Football Union...

No big deal either way.Reagan subsequently went onto quote Dirty Harry in his speeches and endorse Vietnam veteran Rambo as a modern American hero.

The heavyweight championship of the world was the biggest prize in sports then. And Holmes was probably one of the most unpopular champions. So congratulating Cooney, with a telephone call,in his dressing room wouldn't have been such an that outrageous a gesture IMO.I really don't see a disadvantage for Reagan politically to associate himself with a popular sportsman that way....

Wow. 100% cast iron proof.

For the amount of rumours and reports of this phone call there is no real evidence, yet.

So what if he did? I assume the setting up of a phone would be quite easy to arrange.

Remember,Ali was invited to the White House,by the Republican president Gerald Ford, after the Foreman fight. At the time, the two of them were hardly seen as being on the same side politically.

Concede the point, man. He gave you a report from someone who was there.

Its hardly evidence. Its a one word "yes" from someone 30 years after the event.

It may well turn out to be true but theres little or no evidence ive read from anyone near the time of the fight. Boxing more than most sports is shrouded with myth and controversy. Just dont take at face value everything you read or hear. For instance ive read different accounts that this line was set up between Cooneys dressing room or his hotel room.

Go google the words Reagan Phone Cooney Holmes. The returned pages are full of the words "reported" and "rumoured". Dont just take my word for it, go and search for it yourself.

Keep in mind your putting yourself in charge of what's proof and what not and im in the position of you putting me through the freaking Donner party/running dog.

You dismiss "one word "yes" from someone 30 years after the event" and leave out the blistering fact that it was from someone who was there, in Cooney's camp, who would have first-hand knowledge.

You're late with your google argument. SLAKKA gave you something stronger than google, and now you're raising the bar in attempt to stay right. Conceding the point means that you recognize a pretty strong bit of evidence. It isn't the end of the world.

Its a decent piece of evidence but hardly conclusive is it? When sport, race and politics are involved I take much convincing. So should everyone else.

Right. I take much convincing to believe that one Irishman's being a fan of another and wanting to call him after a title bout is the mark of membership in the Aryan Brotherhood. Politically stupid, sure, but racist? That's just crying wolf.

This from a boy whose whole broken family was rooting for ....HOLMES that day in '82.

I see it as insensitive more than flat out racist.
